This competition is Anticipatory Staffing to create an eligibility list for any potential indeterminate, term and emergency vacancies that may arise within this domain.

Summary of position:
Under the supervision of the MCO, the Receptionist assists in the delivery of the Consular Program; operates the central telephone switchboard of the mission; provides general information and front-line assistance to non-consular visitors of the Consulate General; controls physical access to the Consulate and the maintenance of the waiting area; performs other duties as required.

Essential qualifications:
Education:
• Minimum Bachelor’s degree from university, OR an acceptable equivalent through the combination of education and work experience
Language:
• Proficiency in English (reading, writing, listening, speaking)
• Proficiency in Mandarin (reading, writing, listening, speaking)
Experience:
• Minimum one (1) year experience in all of the following areas:
o Experience in general administrative duties
o Experience in dealing with the public and customer/client service
o Experience in working in a team environment
Knowledge:
• Knowledge of general office procedure and practices
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office Tools, including Outlook, Word and Excel
Abilities/skills:
• Ability to write effective business correspondence in English and Chinese
Personal suitability:
• Adaptability and Flexibility – Willingly alters normal course of action
• Client Focus – Responds appropriately
• Effective Interactive Communication – Checks understanding and clarity
• Teamwork and Cooperation – Expresses positive attitudes and expectations of team or team members

Asset Qualifications:
Language:
• Proficiency in French (reading, writing, listening, speaking)
• Proficiency in Cantonese (reading, writing, listening, speaking)
Experience:
• Previous experience as a receptionist or administrative assistant in an office environment

Organizational Needs:
• Ability to obtain and maintain a valid working authorization in China. Per Chinese regulations, the Embassy / Consulates can only facilitate working visas for Canadian citizens
• Ability to obtain and maintain a valid “Reliability Status” security clearance

Operational Requirements:
• Ability and willingness to work overtime on short notice as required
• Able to travel domestically and internationally as required

Condition(s) of Employment:
• Ability to obtain and maintain a valid working authorization in China. Per Chinese regulations, the Embassy / Consulates can only facilitate working visas for Canadian citizens
• Ability to obtain and maintain a valid “Reliability Status” security clearance

Area of selection:
This position is open to external applicants residing in China and employees occupying an indeterminate or term position in China Missions who meet all of the essential qualifications and whose applications are received by the closing date.
