Summary of position:
The Senior Commercial Officer - Ontario is a local employee of the Government of Canada who works autonomously and reports to the Head of Program at the Ontario Trade & Investment Office (TIO) located in Munich. The position is required to contribute to the planning, development and delivery of the Province of Ontario's investment attraction, trade program development, and research and innovation partnerships within the TIO area of operation and sector responsibility.

Essential qualifications:
Essential Requirements (screening criteria)

Education:
- Higher education degree (minimum Bachelors) from an accredited college or university.

Experience:
- Minimum of five years of work experience out of the past seven years in promoting international business development, either in the public or the private sector
- Experience in project management (such as strategic planning, tracking/reporting results and/or trade promotion events organization);
- Experience conducting research and analysis and providing strategic advice, briefings and written reports to senior management and/or clients on business issues;
- Experience in maintaining and developing business network contacts in Germany in at least one sector of interest to Ontario exporters (Automotive, Clean Tech, Life Sciences, Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Agrifood)

Language:
- Professional level of German (oral and written)
- Professional level of English (oral and written)

Rated Requirements
Knowledge:
- Professional knowledge of client management software and planning and budgeting tools (e.g. salesForce, Microsoft Dynamics, Trio, etc.)
- Extensive knowledge of the German economy in at least three important sectors
- Knowledge of trade-related policy as it relates to trade promotion, including free trade agreements.
- Knowledge of key sectors of the Ontario economy
- Knowledge of how to organize a VIP visit such as CEOs, Senior Management (and or political or Government representatives such as Mayors, member of Parliament, ministers) including incoming/outgoing business delegations.

Abilities and Skills:
- Ability to take initiative
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to prioritize
- Excellent presentation and communication skills in both German and English
- Client service orientation
- Organizational skills

Asset Qualifications:
- Working level knowledge of French

Organizational Needs:

- Ability to travel on occasion
- Ability to work overtime according to operational needs

Condition(s) of Employment:
- Ability to obtain an Enhanced Reliability Clearance
- Valid work permit for Germany for an indeterminate period at present
