Summary of position:
Under the general supervision of the Security Program Manager (SPM) of the Embassy of Canada in Ankara, Turkey, the incumbent is responsible for providing services to enhance the mission’s operational and physical security planning, preparedness and resilience, to provide security analysis and prepare and deliver briefings on security matters, to contribute to maintaining a culture of security in the mission and to assist in the response to security incidents affecting its personnel, information and/or assets, and to contribute to the Embassy’s overall emergency management (EM) and business continuity planning (BCP).

Essential qualifications:
Candidates will initially be screened based on the essential qualifications in relation to education, experience and languages. They must demonstrate clearly in their cover letter and CV how they meet each of these essential qualifications.
Education:
• Government-recognized university degree or equivalent qualification relevant to this field.
Language:
• Fluency in English and Turkish (oral & written)
Experience:
• Minimum (3) three years’ recent * work experience in research and analysis, developing and delivering presentations, and report-writing in a diplomatic mission, an international or a security organization.
(Recent* is defined as within the last five years)

Rated Requirements
Candidates must also meet the Rated Requirements shown below, which will be assessed through any of the following: written examination, an oral interview, role-play, practical tests, presentations and/or psychometric assessment.
Knowledge:
• Knowledge of the Turkish security environment and its implications for Government of Canada personnel and its installations;
• Knowledge of information sources for security-related and emergency management matters;
• Knowledge of the current structure of Turkish national and provincial government departments and agencies, and their policies and practices on security-related matters and emergency planning;
• Knowledge of the MS Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, and Power Point) as well as internet.
Ability/Competencies:
• Ability to communicate effectively in English and Turkish, orally and in writing;
• Ability to provide strategic advice, presentations, briefings and written reports to management and/or clients on security and emergency management issues;
• Ability to identify and analyze trends and developments in the security environment;
• Ability to conduct research and analysis;
• Ability to coordinate conflicting priorities within tight deadlines.

Asset Qualifications:
Preference may be given to candidates who have the following asset qualifications:
• Master’s Degree (any field);
• Fluency in French (oral & written);
• Security-specific work experience;
• Proficient in use of social media, database management, mapping;
If candidates meet the factors listed in the asset qualifications they must also clearly demonstrate how they meet these factors in their cover letter.

Operational Requirements:
• Annual leave may be restricted due to operational needs;
• Willingness to work overtime, including weekends (compensated);
• Willingness to be accessible on mission-supplied BlackBerry or similar mobility tool;
• Available to occasionally travel within Turkey.
