Summary of position:
Under the general supervision of the Common Services Property Officer, the Senior Maintenance Technician is responsible for:
• Undertaking repairs or maintenance on crown assets, leases and crown equipment, in accordance with safety and security regulations, standards and procedures which includes attending to emergency problems and long term maintenance projects;
• Assisting with maintenance projects in several functional areas such as masonry, carpentry, painting, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, water sewage, refrigeration and boiler operations;
• Assisting with lifecycle maintenance and repair planning for the refurbishments of the accommodations during the summer rotation period, including providing input on building conditions, local conditions and/or history of property or building.
• Performing troubleshooting, maintenance, and repairs related to emergency or non-emergency work orders from staff.
• Supervising the Junior Maintenance Technician, including sorting work orders, tasks and assisting the property officer in conducting performance reviews.

Essential qualifications:
Education:
• A diploma or certificate from a technical or vocational school in HVAC (Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning), plumbing or a related technical field.

Language:
• Proficiency in English or French (read, write, and speak);
• Proficiency in Arabic (read, write, and speak).

Experience:
• At least one year of relevant experience in a similar technician position;
• Experience providing client service;
• Experience managing projects for small construction and work orders;
• Experience supervising contractors and junior technicians to ensure repairs and maintenance are properly completed;
• Experience troubleshooting and conducting repairs to HVAC or plumbing in buildings.

Knowledge:
• Knowledge of building repair and maintenance concepts and procedures related to HVAC or plumbing;
• Knowledge of repair and maintenance concepts such as residential appliances, life safety, generators, water supply, hot water tanks and heaters, and fire suppression;
• Knowledge of maintenance management procedures such as maintaining supplies and inventories, maintaining service records, preventative maintenance schedules.

Ability/Competencies:
• Ability to troubleshoot issues and conduct repairs related to technical problems related to building infrastructure, such as HVAC or plumbing;
• Ability to manage a project, including writing a scope of work, and determining what types of outside contractors and supplies would be required;
• Ability to review a problem, describe the issue and propose a solution to clients or managers;
• Ability to follow instructions;
• Ability to work under pressure.

Operational Requirements:
• Overtime may be required;
• Must have a valid Lebanese driver’s license and be capable to drive in Lebanon.

Condition(s) of Employment:
• The successful candidates must be able to legally work in Lebanon or at the Embassy of Canada in Lebanon.
• Applicants must hold a valid working authorization covering the period of employment. If the employment is of an indeterminate nature, or becomes indeterminate, then the work authorization should be permanent or lead by itself to permanent work authorization. The Government of Canada cannot sponsor a candidate to obtain work authorization documents.
• The appointment of the successful candidates will be subject to Medical Clearance and Reliability Check (RC). Reliability status must be maintained throughout employment – failure to do so may result in dismissal.
