Summary of position:
Working in the Commercial and Economic team of the High Commission of Canada in the United Kingdom, under the general direction of the Investment Counsellor, the incumbent is an investment officer acting as the focal point responsible for liaising with foreign companies based in the territory to facilitate Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) into Canada. The incumbent is responsible for the facilitation of large scale greenfield and expansion investments in Canada.

Essential qualifications:
Candidates will initially be screened on the essential qualifications below and must demonstrate in their cover letter how they meet these criteria. Only those candidates who meet all the Essential Requirements and demonstrate this clearly within their application will then proceed to the next stage of the process.

Education: Bachelor’s or equivalent degree from a recognized university in a field related to the position, including but not limited to: commerce, finance, and economics.

Experience:
• At least *five (5) years of recent professional experience working in business development, program delivery in the public sector or foreign direct investment attraction in Canada or the UK. *5 years recent experience being defined as within the last 8 years

OR

• At least **eight (8) years of recent professional experience working in business development, program delivery in the private and/or public sector or in foreign direct investment attraction. **8 years‎ recent experience being defined as within the last 11 years. ‎

• Experience in managing client and stakeholder relationships and in providing client service support to customers/clients;

• Experience in project management;

• Experience in providing strategic advice, briefings, and written reports to management and/or clients on international business issues;

Linguistic Profile: Professional written and oral communication in English

Rated Requirements
Candidates must also meet the Rated Requirements shown below, which will be assessed through any of the following: cover letter, written test, oral communication, interview and reference checks.
• Knowledge of the role of governments in attracting Foreign Direct Investment (FDI);
• Knowledge of the factors that influence investment, expansion and relocation decisions, and of Canada’s value proposition for investors;
• Knowledge of trends and recent developments in the Canadian and the UK economy.
• Experience in managing client and stakeholder relationships and in providing client service support to customers
• Secure, prepare for, conduct, and provide follow-up to an investment outcall;
• Manage multiple priorities with tight deadlines;
• Use technology and social media tools for promotion and/or to generate new business opportunities;
• Sound judgement, Initiative
• Teamwork/strong interpersonal skills

Asset Qualifications:
Preference may be given to candidates who have the following asset qualifications. Candidates must also clearly demonstrate how they meet these factors in their cover letter.
• The ability to communicate effectively in French both orally and in writing
• A graduate degree from a recognized university.

Operational Requirements:
• Must be able to work overtime on short notice on occasion;
• Must be available for occasional duties outside normal working hours (i.e., evenings and weekends);
• Ability to travel when required

Condition(s) of Employment:
Hours of work will be 37.5 per week, worked Monday to Friday at time to be arranged by the supervisor. Any job offer is subject to receipt of satisfactory employment and character references and the ability to obtain and maintain an Enhanced Reliability security screening (including a criminal record check).
Copies of educational qualifications will be required at the interview stage of the process. Successful candidate must have a valid passport and the required documentation allowing the right to work in the UK. Documentation will be required.

This position is open to candidates currently resident in the UK, who hold current documentation allowing them to work in the UK without restriction, who meet all of the essential requirements stated and whose applications are received by the closing date. Those candidates holding documentation/visas not renewable in the UK such as the Youth Mobility Visa will not be eligible to apply for this position.
