Summary of position:
Under the general direction of the Senior Trade Commissioner, the Trade Commissioner contributes to the successful delivery of the International Business Development (IBD) program. The candidate will support Canadian companies in the clean technology and/or green infrastructure sectors that are seeking to grow their business and work with a rich network of potential customers, investors and partners. Working in close collaboration with colleagues across Europe, the Trade Commissioner also takes a leadership role on regional projects related to climate finance.

Essential qualifications:
Candidates will initially be screened on the essential qualifications below and must demonstrate in their cover letter how they meet these criteria. Only those candidates who meet all the Essential Requirements and demonstrate this clearly within their application will then proceed to the next stage of the process.

Education: Bachelor’s or equivalent degree from a recognized university in a field related to the position, including but not limited to: commerce, finance, economics, engineering and/or science.


• At least *five (5) years of recent professional experience working in business development, program delivery in the public sector in Canada or the UK, including at least three (3) years of recent experience in clean technologies / infrastructure / international financial institutions. *5 years recent experience being defined as within the last 8 years


• At least **eight (8) years of recent professional experience working in business development, program delivery in the private and/or public sector in clean technologies / infrastructure / international financial institutions. **‎ recent experience being defined as within the last 11 years. ‎

• Experience conducting research and analysis and providing strategic advice, briefings and written reports to senior management and/or clients on business issues;

• Experience in project management (including strategic planning, tracking/reporting results and budget management);

• Experience in managing client and stakeholder relationships and in providing client service support to customers/clients.

Linguistic Profile: Professional written and oral communication in English

Rated Requirements
Candidates must also meet the Rated Requirements shown below, which will be assessed through any of the following: cover letter, written test, oral communication, interview and reference checks.
• Knowledge of climate finance/international financial institutions funding mechanisms;
• Understanding of the role of the Canadian Trade Commissioner Service in advancing Canadian commercial interests; and
• Knowledge of the Canadian economy.
• Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing;
• Ability to develop and maintain a network of Canadian clients and local contacts;
• Ability to collaborate in-person and remotely with colleagues;
• Ability to identify local market needs and relevant business opportunities;
• Ability to analyse and provide strategic advice;

Preference may be given to candidates who have the following asset qualifications. Candidates must also clearly demonstrate how they meet these factors in their cover letter.
• The ability to communicate effectively in French both orally and in writing
• A graduate degree from a recognized university.

Operational Requirements:
• Must be able to work overtime on short notice on occasion;
• Must be available for occasional duties outside normal working hours (i.e., evenings and weekends);
• Ability to travel when required

Condition(s) of Employment:
Hours of work will be 37.5 per week, worked Monday to Friday at time to be arranged by the supervisor. Any job offer is subject to receipt of satisfactory employment and character references and the ability to obtain and maintain an Enhanced Reliability security screening (including a criminal record check).
Copies of educational qualifications will be required at the interview stage of the process. Successful candidate must have a valid passport and the required documentation allowing the right to work in the UK. Documentation will be required.

This position is open to candidates currently resident in the UK, who hold current documentation allowing them to work in the UK without restriction, who meet all of the essential requirements stated and whose applications are received by the closing date.
