Summary of position:
Under the general supervision of the Management and Consular Officer, managed on a day-to-day basis by the Property Assistant, the Driver/Messenger provides transportation, delivery, and shopping services for all programs in the Embassy. He/she ensures the proper maintenance of vehicles; provides administrative services and other related duties as required.

Essential qualifications:
Candidates must clearly demonstrate in their application that they meet all the essential qualifications (Education, Experience and language).

Education:
• Completion of the second cycle of studies (10-12 years) or an equivalent combination of studies, training(s) and professional experience.

Language:
• Fluency in French (oral & written). The incumbent must have sufficient command of French to understand instructions and to communicate information with colleagues, local authorities and traffic officers.

Experience:
• Have a recent professional experience of at least 3 years as a driver / messenger within the last 5 years.

Knowledge:
• Knowledge of Bamako;
• Knowledge of local driving regulations (Highway Code);
• Basic knowledge of mechanics;
• Computer literacy (Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, Office Suite incl., Outlook).

Abilities/Competencies:
• Autonomy and sense of initiative;
• Client focus;
• Discretion;
• Ability to work under pressure and manage priorities;
• Ability to read a road map.

Asset Qualifications:
Preference may be given to candidates who have the following asset qualifications:

• Similar significant experience in a position in a diplomatic mission or an international organization;
• English proficiency.

Organizational Needs:
• Occasional overtime at short notice, including weekends;
• Must be available to respond, in case of emergency, to phone calls which may occur after hours and at weekends;
• The incumbent may be required to undergo special training to operate an armoured vehicle to ensure the safety of authorized mission personnel in high-risk locations.

Condition(s) of Employment:
• Able to reside and work legally in Mali;
• Able to obtain and maintain a security clearance (reliability);
• Hold a driver's license valid throughout the employment period;
• Meet the requirements of the medical examination (mandatory);
• Able to manually lift a load of 30kg in order to move it.
