Summary of position:
Under the general supervision of the Locally-engaged Senior Consular Officer and direction of the Counselor (Management) and Consul, the responsibilities for this position may include but not limited to:

• Providing information, advice and services to Canadians travelling, working and living in Switzerland and Liechtenstein;
• Processing of passport and citizenship applications;
• Supporting consular program delivery at the Embassy and assist the Embassy with emergency preparedness;
• Responding to general enquiries, by phone and in writing, from clients on Canadian and local laws, regulations and services in such areas as citizenship and passport;
• Ensuring information, advice, and assistance is provided in a manner compliant with the policies and procedures of the Government of Canada and Global Affairs Canada.

Essential qualifications:
Diploma from a recognized university with specialization in public administration, social sciences, psychology, communications, international relations, law, or in another field relevant to this position or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience in area relevant to this position.

English and French - Bilingual imperative (oral and written).

• A minimum of two (2) years of recent work experience* in administration or responding to public inquiries or providing customer service;
• A minimum of two (2) years of recent work experience* in an office environment.

*Recent experience is defined as within the last 5 years.

• General knowledge of the consular mandate of Global Affairs Canada;
• General knowledge of Canada;
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel) as well as Internet research skills.

Asset Qualifications:
Preference may be given to candidates who have the following asset qualifications.

Fluency in German (oral and written).

• Experience working for a diplomatic mission or a governmental /international organization;
• Experience providing consular and/or emergency services;
• Work experience in Canada or in an organization linked to Canada;

Organizational Needs:

Operational Requirements:
Requirement to work directly with the public including with Canadians in distress
Availability and willingness to work overtime when required
Availability and willingness to travel occasionally and on short notice
Normal work week is 37.5 hours from Monday to Friday
Available to start as soon as possible.

Condition(s) of Employment:
Able to obtain and maintain a Government of Canada Reliability Status Clearance. Please note that the Reliability Status Clearance must be maintained throughout your employment at the Embassy as failure to do so may result in dismissal.

The selected candidate must successfully complete the Passport Management Program for Foreign Operations Training including receiving a grade of 80% or more on the certification exam. The certification must be obtained within 3 months of the hiring date. Failure to do so may lead to termination.
