Summary of position:
Export Development Canada (EDC) is Canada’s export credit agency, offering innovative financial and commercial solutions to help Canadian exporters and investors expand their international business. EDC’s knowledge and partnerships are used by more than 9,300 Canadian companies and their global customers in up to 200 markets. Under the leadership and guidance of the Regional Vice President, EMEA and the Chief Representative, Team Leader, Africa, the Senior Regional Manager plays a central role in EDC’s financial business development efforts in Africa markets.

The incumbent has continual interaction with CFO’s, CEO’s and Treasurers of major local borrowers, senior bankers, senior intermediaries, senior private sector representatives and senior public sector officials to discuss new trade and financing trends and opportunities, potential financial structuring solutions, credit analysis and risk mitigation issues. The incumbent is expected to leverage this extensive network across the markets of coverage in order to support key Africa clients and Canadian exporters and investors thereby originating financing opportunities for EDC. As a trusted advisor to senior EDC management in the field, the Senior Regional Manager is called upon to develop and implement strategies, approaches and initiatives for positioning the EDC brand in the markets of coverage.

The incumbent will lead the development of innovative financial solutions to enhance EDC’s capacity to support key Africa clients and Canadian exporters and investors in order to meet the business requirements in those markets. The Senior Regional Manager is accountable for financial business results of EDC in a territory against specified business volume targets including with assigned strategic accounts. The Senior Regional Manager oversees business development planning and the management of business development resources, strategies and initiatives in the markets of coverage and sectors of focus. The Senior Regional Manager leads trade creation & diversification initiatives for assigned strategic accounts. The Senior Regional Manager is also responsible for building and managing the brand image and reputation of EDC as a local value added player in the markets and sectors of coverage. The Senior Regional Manager manages the Corporation’s relationship with representatives of the Canadian government present in the markets of coverage, particularly the Canadian Trade Commissioner Service.

Essential qualifications:
Candidates will initially be screened on the essential qualifications below and must demonstrate in their cover letter how they meet these criteria. Education: University degree (MBA or equivalent) in business or finance.

Experience:
- Minimum 7 years of progressive financial work experience.

- Relevant experience in commercial/corporate/project finance lending origination and structuring.

Linguistic Profile: Professional level of written and spoken English and French


Rated Requirements
Candidates must also meet the Rated Requirements shown below, which will be assessed through any of the following: written test, oral communication, interview and reference checks:

- Solid knowledge of international capital markets with a focus on Africa, African banking and trade finance environments, African financial community, Export Credit Agencies (ECA), and African Multilaterals;
- A strong understanding of financial requirements throughout the life cycle of capital projects and related financing techniques;
- Solid financial analysis and structuring foundation, and knowledge of credit risk management tools;
- Strong cultural knowledge of the London and African banking and business environment and strong knowledge of industry sectors;
- Strong communication and soft skills (written, verbal), including highly effective presentation skills;
- Ability to work effectively with other teams and exhibit strong teamwork skills;
- Ability to identify and develop key account targets and create and implement account strategies to meet objectives;
- Result-oriented, driven and able to pursue initiatives and originate financing opportunities independently;

Asset Qualifications:
The High Commission has the right to further screen on Asset Qualifications and as such, preference may be given to candidates who have the following asset qualifications. Candidates should also clearly demonstrate in their cover letter if they meet these factors.

- Well-developed multi-sectorial business network within Africa.
- Strong EDC or ECA product knowledge;
- Solid knowledge of the Canadian export and investment opportunities in Africa as well as related financing opportunities for EDC;
- Strong knowledge of the leading markets and industries in Africa as well as an understanding of the Canadian capabilities within those sectors

Operational Requirements:
- Ability to travel throughout the Africa region, Europe and to Canada, as required.
- Ability to travel to Ottawa, Canada for a 3-4 week onboarding training period will be required.

Condition(s) of Employment:
Hours of work will be 37.5 per week, worked Monday to Friday at time to be arranged by the supervisor. Any job offer is subject to receipt of satisfactory employment and character references and the ability to obtain and maintain an Enhanced Reliability security screening (including a criminal record check).

Copies of educational qualifications will be required at the interview stage of the process. Successful candidate must have a valid passport and the required documentation allowing the right to work in the UK. Documentation will be required.
