Summary of position:
Under the general direction of the Head of Innovation and Head of Advocacy and Communications, the incumbent is responsible for providing integrated International Business Development and strategic public affairs support to the Cultural Industries, (with a particular focus on the music sector) in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Delaware and Pennsylvania.

The incumbent is responsible for developing and delivering an export strategy to promote Canadian products and services and attracting foreign direct investment (FDI) opportunities to Canada related to the culture sectors.

Identifying opportunities for Canadian companies and institutions; developing an effective network of Canadian and local partners to support program objectives; providing timely and relevant advice to Canadian clients and partners; undertaking research into local business trends; and planning and/or offering support for high-level visits.

The incumbent is also responsible for advancing a strategic cultural public affairs program to effectively showcase and advance Canadian culture in New York. Duties include fully planning, organizing and implementing complete events in partnership with Canadian cultural stakeholders and emerging talent as identified with the Foreign Policy and Diplomacy Services unit, expanding the mission’s network of cultural contacts in territory in a wide range of cultural spheres and generating both targeted and broad-scale attention for Canadian cultural content.

Language requirement:
A high degree of fluency in written and oral English is required. Ability to work in French would be an asset.

Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in a field related to the duties and specific areas of competence required by the position, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

• A minimum of 5 years of experience, supporting cultural, creative or trade p
promotion in an organization involved in international operations. Three of those
years of work experience must have taken place recently, within the 2010-2018
• Experience in the music and/or entertainment industry.
• Experience in managing client and key stakeholder relationships, and in obtaining,
preparing for, and conducting meetings with private sector clients.
• Experience in project management (including strategic planning, tracking/reporting
results and budget management).
• Experience conducting research and analysis on business development issues.
• Experience providing briefings, strategic advice, and written reports to management
and/or clients on business opportunities and international business issues.
• Experience in cultural event planning and delivery of complex public affairs

Candidates who meet the Education and Experience requirements will be assessed on the following qualifications

• Knowledge of the priorities and programs of Global Affairs Canada.
• Knowledge of the Canadian Trade Commissioner Service and its role in
Canadian commercial interests.
• Knowledge of current trends and developments in Canada and the US in the
cultural and creative industries (with an emphasis on the music sector).
• Knowledge of the factors that influence business in the US generally and in the Tri-
State area in particular, and how these may have an impact on Canadian
business interests.

• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing;
• Ability to network and maintain a network of clients and influencers
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment as well as independently;
• Ability to manage multiple priorities with tight deadlines

Organizational Needs:
All applicants must:
• Have independent work authorization in the U.S. and status in accordance with U.S.
protocol directives for foreign missions.
• Be resident in the United States; and

Operational Requirements:
Hours of work: Normal hours of work for this position are in accordance with Locally-Engaged Staff regulations of 37.5 hours per week. The successful candidate must be willing to work evenings, holiday events and overtime as required.

Travel: The position will also require some business travel within the Consulates 5-state territory, as well as possible trips to Canada.

credit background check; and
• Independent work authorization in the United States and status in accordance with
United States protocol directives for foreign missions.

Open to: • Persons living in the New York Tri-State Area • Employees of the Permanent Mission to the United Nations or Canadian Consulate General in New York; • Employees of any Canadian Mission in the United States (Relocation will not be paid in any circumstance); and • Spouses and dependents of Canada-based staff at the two New York Missions.
