Salary:
The monthly starting salary for this position is 4,421 EURO gross. The successful candidate receives a 13th month salary, will be entitled to 30 days of vacation per year and will benefit of an employer’s contribution to the pension plan.

Summary of position:
The Foreign Policy and Diplomacy Service (FPDS) Advocacy Officer (Public Affairs) position in the Embassy of Canada’s Public Affairs section develops and carries out advocacy plans and activities related to Government of Canada priorities and interests in Germany and with the goal of promoting Canadian values and brand.

The FPDS Officer will coordinate events and campaigns, track budgets, partner with relevant organisations in Canada and in Germany, conduct online promotion, and write documents and presentations. The officer will also represent the Embassy at functions and develop and maintain a network of contacts in one of more of the following areas:
(a) academic relations and Canadian Studies groups,
(b) Canada friendship and alumni groups, Canadians living in Germany,
(c) cultural promotion, and
(d) other communities as determined by the Embassy;

Essential qualifications:
Essential Qualifications
Candidates will initially be screened on the essential qualifications below and must demonstrate in their cover letter and c.v. how they meet these criteria. Only those candidates who meet all the essential qualifications and demonstrate this clearly within their application will then proceed to the next stage of the process. The essential qualifications are:

Education:
University degree (Bachelor or higher) or other postsecondary qualification related to the position (including but not limited to public affairs, communications, North American studies, political science, etc.), or a combination of education and experience that provides an equivalent level of expertise.

Experience:
1) At least three years of work experience accumulated over the previous seven years in Public Affairs, in one or more of the following: advocacy, public diplomacy, communications, social media, promotion, marketing, outreach, or similar.

AND

2) One of the following:
2 a) At least three years of work experience accumulated over the previous seven years in the public sector, government relations, non-profit or non-governmental organization or related field (e.g. embassy, government institution, government agency, public institution (e.g. museum), non-governmental organization, political foundation, or think tank

OR

2 b) At least one year of fulltime work experience accumulated over the previous three years in the Embassy of Canada in Berlin.

Language:
- Professional level (written and oral) of German
- Professional level (written and oral) of English
- Good knowledge (written and oral) of French

Rated Requirements
Candidates must also meet the Rated Requirements shown below, which will be assessed through any of the following: cover letter, written test, oral communication, interview and reference checks. The rated requirements are:

Knowledge:
- Excellent knowledge of Canada (including politics, economy, culture and/or geography)
- Good knowledge of Germany’s official positions and public opinions on political, economic and social issues
- Knowledge of developing and delivering advocacy campaigns
- Knowledge of project management (from proposal to delivery and reporting)
- Knowledge of planning and organization of events
- Knowledge of working with institutional partners
- Excellent knowledge of MS Office
- Knowledge of social media and digital competencies

Abilities and skills
- Excellent judgment skills
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Ability to work independently and in a team
- Ability to manage complex files in a changing environment

Asset Qualifications:
Preference may be given to candidates who have the following asset qualifications. Candidates must also clearly demonstrate how they meet these factors in their cover letter. The asset qualifications are:

- Strong network of contacts in a field related to the position
- Demonstrated interest in Canadian Studies
- Work experience in coordinating a social media channel

- Willingness to work overtime on occasions and on short notice
- Willingness to work on public holidays and weekends on occasions

Condition(s) of Employment:
- Ability to obtain the required security clearance
- Must be allowed at present to work in Germany for an indeterminate period
- Residence in Germany

Area of selection:
