Foreign Policy and Diplomacy Service Officer (Political) (m/f) - (maternity leave cover)

Salary:
The annual starting salary for a full-time position is 53,478 EURO gross plus benefits.

Summary of position:
Reporting to the Deputy Program Manager, provides political support and analysis, and reports on German domestic and foreign policy developments; promotes Canadian foreign policy priorities and interests; builds relationships with institutions, organizations and a strong network of contacts; develops and programmes advocacy activities; supports visits by Canadians to Germany.

Essential qualifications:
Essential qualifications
Candidates will initially be screened on the essential qualifications below and must demonstrate in their cover letter/ c.v. how they meet these criteria. Only those candidates who meet all the essential qualifications and demonstrate this clearly within their application will then proceed to the next stage of the process.
The essential qualifications are:
- University degree
- Relevant work related experience
- Professional level (oral and written) of German
- Professional level (oral and written) of one of Canada’s official languages (English or French) with some knowledge of the other (French or English)

Rated Requirements
Candidates must also meet the rated requirements shown below, which will be assessed through any of the following: cover letter, written test, oral communication, interview and reference checks.
The rated requirements are:
- Knowledge of political systems in Canada and Germany
- Knowledge of current German and European political issues
- Research and analytical skills
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing
- Ability to work under pressure
- Good judgement skills
- Client service orientation
- Team working skills

Asset Qualifications:
Preference may be given to candidates who have the following asset qualifications. Candidates must also clearly demonstrate how they meet these factors in their cover letter. The Asset qualifications are:
- Canadian work experience, including work at a Canadian diplomatic mission or with other foreign diplomatic missions or international organisations.
- Work experience in either the Bundestag or in a German think tank/political foundation
- Experience in organizing visits and conferences
- Professional level (oral and written) of the other official language (French or English)

Willingness to work overtime and on short notice.

Condition(s) of Employment:
- Ability to obtain the required security clearance
- Valid work permit for Germany at application stage
