Summary of position:
Under the direction of the Mission Security Officer (MSO) with area responsibility for Barbados as well as its areas of accreditation/responsibility (Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, British Virgin Islands, Dominica, Grenada, Guadeloupe, Martinique, Monserrat, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, St. Maarten), this position provides security and emergency management services for the High Commission with the goal of ensuring that the mission is always in a state of readiness to respond to international emergencies affecting Canadian communities abroad, as well as maintaining and enhancing the mission’s operational and physical security by developing, implementing and delivering operational security measures; developing an extensive network of contacts throughout the region of accreditation; liaising with a wide range of other local authorities who provide security and emergency services, and with counterparts in other organizations; contributing to the security briefings and trainings program; contributing to the missions overall emergency preparedness, and resilience as well as assisting in the preparation and delivery of Mission Emergency Management and Preparedness; and responding to a full range of incidents; maintaining and supporting physical security systems and infrastructure and providing corporate support to the Security Program. The position works in close coordination with the Mission Security Officer (MSO), the Deputy Mission Security Officer (DMSO), the local guard force, as well as with other Mission programmes.

Essential qualifications:
Language
 Fluency in English, written and spoken.

Education
 Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university
OR
 An equivalent combination of education, training, and/or work experience related to the duties and specific areas of competence required for the position.

Experience
 Minimum of three (3) year’s experience in the past five (5) year’s working in corporate security, risk analysis or equivalent.
 Experience writing reports based on research and analysis of open source information.
 Experience in building and maintaining a network of professional contacts.
 Experience in emergency management.

Knowledge
 In-depth knowledge of the security environment in Barbados.
 General knowledge of the various government, security institutions and law-enforcement agencies in Barbados.
 General knowledge of local and or regional emergency management and business continuity planning.
 Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (i.e., Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and knowledge of web-based search engine.

Travel
 Willingness and ability to travel on a regular basis to other countries/area of responsibility.


Asset Qualifications:
Experience
 Experience working in a diplomatic/consular mission and/or an international organization.
 Experience in providing training to small groups.

Language
 Fluency in French, written and spoken.
Education
 Specialized education in corporate security or risk analysis is an asset.

Condition(s) of Employment:
Conditions of Employment
 Eligibility for a Government of Canada Enhanced Reliability Status which includes a criminal record check, credit check, and validation of qualifications.
 Be able and committed to working additional hours as required and on short notice including evenings and weekends.
 Must be willing to undertake work-related travel.
 Field work under potentially difficult conditions will be required (during crises management).
 Successful completion of a one-year probationary period.

Area of selection:
