Summary of position:
Under the general supervision of the First Secretary (Political), assists with the management of Canada Fund for Local initiatives (CFLI); provides administrative support to Political Section; liaises with local governments and local contacts; and performs other duties as required.

Essential qualifications:
Mandatory requirements:

• Minimum Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university, OR an acceptable equivalent through the combination of education and work experience

• Proficiency in English (reading, writing, listening, speaking)
• Proficiency in Mandarin (reading, writing, listening, speaking)

• Minimum one year’s recent experience in each of the following areas:
o Experience in the full range of office administration: establishing and maintaining administrative, financial, office and filing systems
o Experience in budget management, using accounting systems and Excel spread sheets
o Experience in providing client service

• Ability to get and stay organized (effectively manage time, tasks, workload)
• Ability to handle multiple demands and manage numerous projects (financial, administrative, and events-related) simultaneously
• Ability to foresee problems and address them by taking action
• Ability to communicate effectively and accurately in English (written and oral)
• Ability to translate Chinese to English and vice versa

• Ability to obtain and maintain a valid working authorization in China. The Embassy / Consulates can only facilitate working visas for Canadian citizens
• Ability to obtain and maintain a valid “Reliability Status” security clearance
Operational Requirement:
• Ability and willingness to work overtime on short notice, as required
• Able to travel domestically as required

Area of selection:
This position is open to external applicants residing in China and employees occupying an indeterminate or term position in China Missions who meet all of the essential qualifications and whose applications are received by the closing date. Short-listed candidates should be able to participate in tests and/or interview in Beijing at own expense. The successful candidate will be required to relocate to Beijing at their own expense.
