Summary of position:
Under the supervision of the Property and Material Manager, the Material Assistant (LE-05) coordinates,
organizes and implements the purchasing of all material for the mission, as well as its receipt, storage,
distribution and disposal; plans, organizes and controls the maintenance, repair and replacement
of material resources; collects data for the development of the mission's material budget and monitors the budget throughout the year; coordinates and organizes the purchase and distribution of all office supplies; controls the mission inventory and distribution of the inventory; controls and organizes the maintenance and distribution of the mission Hospitality equipment and Pack-up Kits; and performs other duties.

Essential qualifications:
Candidates will initially be screened against the Essential Qualifications relating to education, experience and language. Candidates must clearly demonstrate in their cover letter and CV how they meet each of these essential qualifications.

• Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university

• Fluency in English (oral and written);
• Fluency in Amharic (oral and written).

• Three years of experience working in procurement or material management OR five years’ experience working in an administrative position in a diplomatic and/or international organization

Experience should have been obtained within the past 10 years

Rated Requirements

The Rated Requirements relating to knowledge, abilities and competencies will also be assessed. Methods of assessment may include, but are not limited to, a written examination, an oral interview, role-play, practical tests, presentations and/or psychometric assessment.

• Knowledge of procurement and contracting from suppliers and service providers;
• Knowledge of basic budgeting and expenditure principles such as forecasting, monitoring, etc.;
• Knowledge of inventory management principles;
• Knowledge of North American or European quality standards of furnishings, appliances, office supplies and equipment, etc., and repairs;
• Knowledge of general administrative practices and procedures;
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook Mail).

Asset Qualifications:
Preference may be given to candidates who meet the Asset Qualifications. Where applicable, candidates must clearly demonstrate how they meet any asset qualifications in their cover letter and CV.

• Previous experience working in a diplomatic mission, in a Canadian Government or Canadian Public Sector environment, or in an international organization;
• Documented experience of quality control and follow-up of projects / purchases;
• Fluency in French, Canada’s other official language.

• Ability and willingness to work overtime;
• Leave may be restricted due to operational requirements.
