Summary of position:
Under the supervision of the Canadian Defence Attaché (CDA) and the Canadian Defence Attaché Administrative Assistant (CDA AA):

• Maintains and executes an annual Military Training and Cooperation Program (MTCP) for countries of the CDA's accreditation (currently Djibouti and possible Ethiopia, South Sudan and Somali);
• Provides administrative assistance to the CDA and CDA AA; and
• Performs other administrative, coordination and translation duties as required

Essential qualifications:
Candidates will initially be screened against the Essential Qualifications relating to education, experience and language. Candidates must clearly demonstrate in their cover letter and CV how they meet each of these essential qualifications.

Education:
• Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university OR an acceptable equivalent through the combination of education and work experience

Language:
• Fluency in English and Amharic (oral and written)

Experience:
• At least three (3) years of recent (within the past five (5) years), relevant work experience in providing administrative support to an executive team.
• Experience in writing, editing and formatting documents

Rated Requirements
The Rated Requirements relating to knowledge, abilities and competencies will also be assessed. Methods of assessment may include, but are not limited to, a written examination, an oral interview, role-play, practical tests, presentations and/or psychometric assessment.

Knowledge:
• Knowledge of Ethiopia defence, military, and security organisations
• Knowledge of Canada and the Canadian Armed Forces, as well as Canadian Government rules and regulations
• Knowledge of general administrative practices and procedures; and
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook Mail);

Abilities/Competencies:
• Ability to manage time in order to arrange workflow and meet deadlines
• Ability to network with local authorities for logistical and administrative activities (travel planning, work and social events, scheduling, etc.)
• Ability to produce accurate translations of correspondence and other written works in English and Amharic
• Ability to do research and collate information
• Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision
• Discretion and professional integrity
• Adaptability and flexibility – adapts approaches to problems
• Focus on quality and details – monitors data or projects
• Imitative – proactive and plans ahead

Asset Qualifications:
Preference may be given to candidates who meet the Asset Qualifications. Where applicable, candidates must clearly demonstrate how they meet any asset qualifications in their cover letter and CV.

• Previous experience working in a diplomatic mission, in a Canadian Government or Canadian Public Sector environment, or in an international organization;
• Fluency in French, Canada’s other official language.

• Ability and willingness to work overtime;
• Leave may be restricted due to operational requirements.
• May need to travel at times outside of Addis Ababa

Condition(s) of Employment:
