Summary of position:
Under the general direction of the Regional Medical Officer, the locally engaged doctor reviews health-related files of immigrants to Canada. Specifically the work includes:

Review, manage and assess medical examination submitted by applicants wishing to immigrate to Canada. This includes the interpretation of chest X-Rays, review of medical reports and identification of supplementary information required to assess and finalize medical files based on preset rules to manage risks to public health, public safety or cases that may be subject to excessive demand on social and health services in Canada.

Summarize medical findings and write reports explaining his/her medical opinion for cases inadmissible on health grounds.

Contribute to research and information gathering, training and quality control processes, and provides professional guidance with respect to procedures, and perform other duties as required.

Essential qualifications:
Essential Qualifications
Candidates will initially be screened on the essential qualifications below and must demonstrate in their cover letter how they meet these criteria. Only those candidates who meet all the Essential Requirements and demonstrate this clearly within their application will then proceed to the next stage of the process.

Education:
• Medical Degree from an accredited school of medicine with Canadian equivalence

Language:
• Ability to communicate effectively (reading , speaking and writing) in English;
• Ability to communicate effectively (reading and speaking) in French

Experience:
• Minimum 3 years’ experience in clinical health care or in hospital setting
• Interpreting basic chest x-rays
• Providing support or administrative services such as: Medical data entry/extraction and providing written/oral reports
• Experience in the use of various software applications (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and web-based applications

Occupational Certificate: licensed to practice in the UK without restriction and in good standing order with the issuing medical license body. Documentation will be required at time of application.

Rated Requirements
Candidates must also meet the Rated Requirements shown below, which will be assessed through any of the following: cover letter, written test, oral communication, interview and reference checks.

• Management of common chronic and infectious diseases
• Ability to review health assessment for clients of all ages and provide an opinion on the findings
• Ability to analyse immigration medical examinations to assess risks related to health conditions for applicants to Canada
• Communicate effectively orally and in writing with clients and stakeholders
• Working effectively with others
• Demonstrating Integrity and respect
• Showing initiative and thinking things through

Asset Qualifications:
Preference may be given to candidates who have the following asset qualifications. Candidates must also clearly demonstrate how they meet these factors in their cover letter.

• Degree or Work experience in Statistics and/or Epidemiology and/or Public Health

Operational Requirements:
• Required to work overtime periodically
• Ability and willingness to travel occasionally internationally

Condition(s) of Employment:
Hours of work will be 37.5 hours per week, worked Monday to Friday. Any job offer is subject to receipt of satisfactory employment and character references and the ability to obtain and maintain security screening at the Reliability Status level, including a criminal and credit reference check. Copies of educational qualifications will be required at the interview stage of the process. Successful candidate must have a valid passport and the required documentation allowing the right to work in the UK. Documentation will be required at time of application. This position is open to candidates currently resident in the UK, who hold current documentation allowing them to work in the UK without restriction, who meet all of the essential requirements stated and whose applications are received by the closing date. Those candidates holding documentation/visas not renewable in the UK such as the Youth Mobility Visa will not be eligible to apply for this position.
