Summary of position:
Working in the International Business Development team, as part of the Trade Commissioner Service within the Consulate General in Shanghai, under the direction of a Canadian-based Trade Commissioner, the incumbent is a Trade Commissioner primarily responsible for managing the Consulate General’s activities supporting Canadian clients in China’s Life Sciences sectors.

Essential qualifications:
• Minimum Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized university, OR an acceptable equivalent through the combination of education and work experience

• Proficiency in English (reading, writing, listening, speaking)
• Proficiency in Mandarin Chinese (reading, writing, listening, speaking)

• A minimum of 3 years recent and direct experience in business development on behalf of foreign (non-Chinese) firms activities’ in China;
• Significant experience managing client and stakeholder relationships and providing client service support to customers/clients;
• Experience in working and liaising with government departments and officials;
• Experience in providing strategic advice, briefings, and written reports to management and/or clients on international business issues;
• Experience in using social media tools for promotion and/or to generate new business opportunities; and
• Experience in project management.

• Substantial knowledge of China’s Life Science related business sector(s), including their presence in North America;
• In-depth understanding of Chinese government policy on Life Science related products and services;
• Knowledge of Life Science logistics channels for foreign products entering China;
• Knowledge of international business in China and the role of foreign governments’ support of international businesses in China (exporting, importing, investment, technology transfer, etc.);
• Knowledge of the factors that influence market entry decisions for foreign companies evaluating Life Science opportunities in China;
• Knowledge of the Canadian Life Science sector;
• Knowledge of trends and recent developments related to Chinese Life Sciences;
• MS Office Tools, including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint

• Communicate effectively in English and Chinese, both orally and in writing;
• Build and sustain a network of contacts;
• Analyze information and provide strategic advice;
• Manage multiple priorities with tight deadlines;
• Use social media tools for promotion and/or to generate new business opportunities;
• Use of technology tools and data bases.

• Ability to obtain and maintain a valid working authorization in China. Per Chinese regulations, the Embassy / Consulates can only facilitate working visas for Canadian citizens
• Ability to obtain and maintain a valid “Reliability Status” security clearance

Area of selection:
This position is open to external applicants residing in China and employees occupying an indeterminate or term position in China Missions who meet all of the essential qualifications and whose applications are received by the closing date. Short-listed candidates should be able to participate in tests and/or interviews in Shanghai at own expense. The successful candidate will be required to relocate to Shanghai at own expense.
