Summary of position:
As a member of the Canadian Trade Commissioner Service, working under the general direction of the Consul and Senior Trade Commissioner (STC) for South India, the Locally-Based Trade Commissioner (LES-09) will contribute significantly to the business development programme by promoting the export of goods and services, developing and sharing knowledge of local market opportunities, supporting Canadian Clients, building relationships with Canadian clients and local contacts, as well as planning and executing events. The incumbent is responsible for:

• Develop knowledge of current market opportunities to advise/assist/respond to clients;
• Develop extensive network of contacts, initiating new and strengthening existing relationships and contributing towards building India- Canada linkages
• Analyze diverse potential and actual urgent business or market access problems encountered by clients, and develop creative strategies for resolving them;
• Engaging in, supporting, and acting as lead on targeted outreach activities, events and official visits related to trade promotion, FDI, Canadian Direct Investment Abroad (CDIA), S&T and Innovation
• Participating in the development of sector-specific annual planning and priorities setting, budget allocation and reporting;
• Establishing and expanding networks of local contacts required to identify and promote opportunities for attracting investment to Canada;
• Proactively establishing and expanding networks required to identify and promote Canadian S&T excellence;
• Drafting business communications for clients and drafting speeches for delivery by the Program Manager or the Head of Mission to local organizations or clients; and,
• Optimizing the use of available technology as part of a mobile, wireless and remote access workforce, to improve client services.

Essential qualifications:
Mandatory Screening Qualifications:

Education: Master’s degree from a recognized university with a major in a discipline related to the position such as Business Administration, International Trade, Commerce or Economics.

Language: Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English

Experience: Minimum 5 years (within the past 7 years) of relevant experience in:
• International business development, working with commercial, financial or government clients in international trade and /or investment promotion;
• Experience in developing Client and Stakeholder relationships, including preparing for and conducting meetings with key internal and external contacts;
• Experience in planning programs with minimal supervision for at least one of the following: clients and partners, high-profile visits, trade shows, roundtable networking events, trade delegations;
• Engaging in, supporting, and acting as lead on targeted outreach activities related to trade promotion, FDI, S&T and Innovation
• The use of modern technology and social media platforms in business development and trade promotion.

Computer Skills: MS-office (including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), Social Media.

Mandatory Rated Qualifications:

• Knowledge of the local business environment and community as well as international trade and investment opportunities in South India.
• Knowledge of Canada’s footprint in India and Canadian commercial policy and international business trade and issues.
• Organizational knowledge of Global Affairs Canada (GAC) and the role of the Canadian Trade Commissioner Service (TCS) in India in advancing Canadian commercial inters and attracting foreign investment.

• Ability to provide strategic advice, briefings and written reports to management;
• Ability to coordinate conflicting priorities within tight deadlines and meet work targets.

Asset Qualifications:

Operational Requirements:

• Meet all of the mandatory screening qualifications and mandatory rated qualifications stated below
• Have independent work authorization in India
• Be available to work overtime (at times including weekends) and for occasional travel within India

Condition(s) of Employment:
The appointment of the successful candidate will be subject to a Reliability Check (RC) obtained by the Management. To conduct the Reliability Check (RC), the candidate will have to submit the following documents on being selected by the mission.

• Police clearance certificate (Character Certificate)
• Letter of recognition from your bank stating your name, years of client service and your address
• Professional and educational certificates and mark sheets (i.e., academic transcripts)

**Successful candidate must be available to start within 30 days of offer.**
