Summary of position:
The Embassy of Canada in Beirut is launching a staffing process to build a pool of qualified candidates at GS4 level to work as Maintenance Technician with responsibilities including but not limited to the following:
• Completing general repairs in carpentry, masonry, plumbing, electrical, painting and specific functional maintenance duties (such as refrigeration, heating, ventilation and air conditioning, boiler operations, mechanics etc.) and schedules for all crown owned assets, leases and equipment.
• Attending to emergency problems, supervising, monitoring and inspecting work performed by contractors to ensure compliance with manufacturer’s specifications, and consulting supervisor when required.
• Assisting with the preparation of preventive maintenance programs as required, and assisting other Property / Maintenance Team members in the completion of various projects such as moving, verifying receipt of goods and attending to emergency problems.

Essential qualifications:
Education:
• A Trade Certificate/ diploma from a recognized technical institution OR an acceptable combination of education, training and three years of work experience related to the duties and specific areas of competence required by the position.

Language:
• Proficiency in English or French both written and spoken.
• Proficiency in Arabic both written and spoken.

Experience:
• At least one (1) year of recent experience (within the past three (3) years) working in maintenance of properties in a similar position in one of the following areas: plumbing, electrical, and/ or carpentry.


Knowledge:
• Knowledge of building maintenance (electrical, plumbing, air conditioning, residential appliances, life safety – generators, water supply, fire suppression).
• Knowledge of troubleshooting and diagnosis techniques.

Ability/Competencies:
• Ability to use specialized tools and test equipment to conduct repairs/replacements of defective parts.
• Ability to use MS Office products (outlook, word).
• Effective interactive communication – oral and written – e.g. ability to read work orders, understand technical instructions and update inventory and supplies in either English or French.
• Ability to follow instructions.
• Ability to prioritize effectively.
• Client service oriented.
• Effective interpersonal relations.
• Judgement

Asset Qualifications:
Preference may be given to candidates who have the following asset qualifications:
• Valid relevant technical certificates (electrician, plumbing etc.) from a recognised institution.
• Knowledge of the two official languages of Canada (English and French)

Candidates must also clearly demonstrate how they meet these factors in their covering letter.

Operational Requirements:
• Must be willing to work overtime and on weekends.

Condition(s) of Employment:
• The successful candidates must be able to legally work in Lebanon.
• Applicants must hold a valid working authorization covering the period of employment. If the employment is of an indeterminate nature, or becomes indeterminate, then the work authorization should be permanent or lead by itself to permanent work authorization. The Canadian Government cannot sponsor a candidate to obtain work authorization documents.
• The appointment of the successful candidates will be subject to Medical Clearance.
• Reliability Security Clearance must be granted and maintained throughout employment – failure to pass the security clearance will result in dismissal.
• Must have a Lebanese driver’s license and be capable to drive in Beirut
