Summary of position:
Under the supervision of the Events & Logistics Officer, operates the central telephone switchboard serving all Embassy programs; provides general information to all visitors and answers general enquiries about Canada; receives visitors at the reception window, assists in registering Consular clients and pre-screening applications; maintains the mission subscription list; and performs other duties as required.

Essential qualifications:
Education:

• University degree, OR an acceptable equivalent through the combination of education and work experience

Language:

• Proficiency in English (reading, wiring, listening and speaking)
• Proficiency in Mandarin (reading, wiring, listening and speaking)

Experience:

• Experience in dealing with the public and customer/client service
• Experience performing general administrative duties

Abilities/skills:

• Ability to work on a PC in a network environment, including email, word processing and spreadsheet applications

Operational Requirements:
• Ability and willingness to work overtime on short notice as required
• Able to travel domestically and internationally as required

Condition(s) of Employment:
• Ability to obtain and maintain a valid working authorization in China. Per Chinese regulations, the Embassy / Consulates can only facilitate working visas for Canadian citizens
• Ability to obtain and maintain a valid “Reliability Status” security clearance

Area of selection:
This position is open to external applicants residing in China and employees occupying an indeterminate or term position in China Missions who meet all of the essential qualifications and whose applications are received by the closing date. Short-listed candidates should be able to participate in tests and/or interviews in Beijing at own expense. The successful candidate will be required to relocate to Beijing at their own expense.
