Full-time employment (37.50 hours per week) – Indeterminate contract including one year of probation-a pool of qualified candidates could be created for fixed-term contracts. This position is a LES (Locally Engaged Staff) position, subject to the Terms and Conditions of Employment for LES in Algeria.

Summary of position:
Under the supervision of the property agent, the incumbent must;
• Perform various maintenance and repairs in the Chancery, the official residence and the Canadian staff quarters: install, maintain and repair plumbing, air conditioning, heating equipment and installations, electricity and gas;
• Perform painting, masonry and carpentry work and perform any other general maintenance work;
• Transporting and installing any equipment related to the reception and holding of activities and meetings, including setting up tables, placing chairs and installing audio-visual equipment and facilities when requested for the official activities of the Embassy;
• Assist in transporting and moving large objects such as indoor or outdoor furniture;
• Monitor the work carried out by companies in the context of service contracts (such as grounds maintenance, cleaning of the pool, cleaning of buildings, maintenance of generators, elevators, electrical transformer station and verification of fire extinguishers, cleaning of networks) and assist as needed for necessary preparations and clean-up;
• Supervise contractors who work on the construction project (refurbishment, renovations, remodeling and new constructions), and assist as needed for necessary preparations and cleaning, as well as painting during rotation periods;
• Ensure that the inventory of tools, spare parts and consumables is up to date and inform the supervisor when replacement supplies or tools are required;
• Conduct water tests, compare results with guidelines for drinking water quality in Canada, and take immediate action in the event of water quality exceedances;
• Respond to work requests assigned as part of the online service tool (MRO);
• Participate in the implementation of the Mission's preventive maintenance plan, including cleaning of gutters and roofs, periodic verification of the butane gas and city gas supply system, water pipes, HVAC system, electrical boxes and AEP tarpaulin, generators, change of filters in the transformer room, testing of the fire detection and firefighting system, and cleaning of water fountains;
• Perform other tasks as needed.

Essential qualifications:
Candidates will initially be screened against the Essential Qualifications relating to education, experience and language. Candidates must clearly demonstrate in their cover letter and CV how they meet each of these essential qualifications.

Education:
• High school diploma or professional diploma in a field related to the position to be staffed, or equivalent combination of relevant studies, training and experience recognized in one of the following areas: air conditioning/heating, plumbing, electricity, carpentry, electronics, masonry and building painting;

Language:
• Ability to communicate in Arabic and French orally and in writing;

Experience:
• Recent work experience * of at least two years in the maintenance of residences or office or administrative complexes, in air conditioning/ heating, electricity, plumbing and other areas: carpentry, masonry and building painting.
* Recent work experience refers to experience acquired during the five (5) years immediately preceding the closing date referred to in this employment opportunity.

Rated Requirements
The Rated Requirements relating to knowledge, abilities and competencies will also be assessed. Methods of assessment may include, but are not limited to, a written examination, an oral interview, role-play, practical tests, presentations and/or psychometric assessment.

Knowledge:
• Knowledge of inventory and inventory management and handling procedures;
• Knowledge of electrical installations (110 volts, 220 volts, 380 volts);
• Knowledge of plumbing parts and materials (PPR, PHD);
• Computer knowledge (Internet and Outlook);
• Knowledge of health and safety rules.

Asset Qualifications:
Preference may be given to candidates who meet the Asset Qualifications. Where applicable, candidates must clearly demonstrate how they meet any asset qualifications in their cover letter and CV.
• Recent experience * of at least six (6) months in a similar position within a diplomatic mission.
• Proficiency in the English language (spoken);
* Recent experience refers to experience acquired during the two (2) years immediately preceding the closing date referred to in this employment opportunity.

Organizational Needs:
• Ability to occasionally work overtime with little notice, which may include weekends and public holidays;
• Must wear and use protective clothing/equipment;
• Be able to do physical work such as moving furniture or lifting cartons.

• Candidates must have a valid work authorization covering the entire employment period. If the employment is indeterminate, the work authorization should be permanent or itself lead to a permanent work authorization.

• Obtain and maintain a reliability rating (security clearance) from the Government of Canada covering the entire employment period.
