Summary of position:
Tradesmen supervisor : under the direction of the Works superintendent, the incumbent Manage the Embassy tradesman functions including carpenters, plumbers and painters, plan, organise and implement a program for preventive maintenance, upkeep and repair of the embassy offices buildings for all works related to field of expertise, recommends, plans and implements upgrades, replacement or retrofit, Prepares the annual budget input for operations and maintenance requirements and monitor the budget and performs supervisory and administrative duties.

Electro-Mechanic supervisor: under the direction of the Works superintendent, the incumbent Manage the Embassy tradesman performing electro-mechanic functions, plan, organise and implement a program for preventive maintenance, upkeep and repair of the embassy offices buildings for all works related to field of expertise, recommends, plans and implements upgrades, replacement or retrofit, prepares the annual budget input for operations and maintenance requirements and monitor the budget and performs supervisory and administrative duties or other task as needed.

Essential qualifications:
Education:
• Minimum Bachelor degree from a university, OR an acceptable equivalent through the combination of education and work experience

Language:
• Proficiency in English (reading, writing, listening, speaking)
• Proficiency in Mandarin Chinese (reading, writing, listening, speaking)

Experience:
• For the Electro-Mechanic supervisor position: Recent experience (minimum 2 year in the past 5 years) in managing the operation and maintenance of an institutional sized HVAC system and electrical system.
• For the Tradesmen supervisor position: Recent experience (minimum 2 year in the past 5 years) in managing a team responsible to perform institutional building maintenance and repairs including at least 2 of the 4 following trades: carpenter, plumbers, masons or painters
• For both positions: Recent experience (minimum 2 year in the past 5 years) in every of the following areas:
o Experience in supervising staff
o Experience in project management
o Experience in dealing with customer/client service

Knowledge:
• Knowledge materials, methods, tools and equipment employed in providing utilities type service and utilities maintenance to buildings and equipment
• Knowledge of hazards and safety precautions involved in general utility and maintenance work

Abilities/skills:
• Ability to direct, plan, organize, and control a work force of specialized technicians
• Ability to plan, organise and implement a program for preventive maintenance
• Ability to estimate time, cost, materials and scheduling requirements as necessary for completion of projects
• Ability to perform both office work and on-site supervision
• Ability to use Microsoft Office programs in the work environment, including Outlook, Word and Excel

Language:
• Proficiency in French (reading, writing, listening, speaking)

• Knowledge of Workplace Hazardous Industrial Material Inventory System (WHIMIS)

Operational Requirements:
• Ability and willingness to work overtime on short notice as required;
• Able to travel domestically and internationally as required.

Condition(s) of Employment:
• Ability to obtain and maintain a valid working authorization in China. Per Chinese regulations, the Embassy / Consulates can only facilitate working visas for Canadian citizens
• Ability to obtain and maintain a valid “Reliability Status” security clearance

Area of selection:
This position is open to external applicants residing in China and employees occupying an indeterminate or term position in China Missions who meet all of the essential qualifications and whose applications are received by the closing date. Short-listed candidates should be able to participate in tests and/or interviews in Beijing at own expense. The successful candidate will be required to relocate to Beijing at own expense.
