Summary of position:
Under the general supervision of the Political Program Manager, manages agenda for the Political Program Manager; manages information flow and quality control of outgoing documentation; plans and organizes events; acts as a point of contact for visitors and callers; supports the Ambassador’s Office as required including as principal back-up to the Ambassador’s assistant; and performs other duties on an ongoing basis.

• Performs other duties either on ad hoc or on an ongoing basis

Essential qualifications:
Candidates will initially be screened against the Essential Qualifications relating to education, experience and language. Candidates must clearly demonstrate in their cover letter and/ or CV how they meet each of these essential qualifications.

Education:
• A degree from an accredited university or college; or an acceptable combination of relevant experience, education, and training related to the duties and specific areas of competence required by the position.

Language:
• Fluent in (speaking, reading, and writing) English
• Fluent in (speaking, reading, and writing) Arabic

Experience:
• At least 2 years of recent* experience (within the past five (5) years) working in a professional office setting in a job role that includes research and writing skills.

• At least 2 years of recent* experience (within the past five (5) years) working in a job setting exposed to social media review, newspaper review, report writing etc.

• At least 1 year of recent * experience (within the past three (3) years) working in a setting that involves managing calendars, events, translation, etc.

*”Recent experience” refers to the depth and breadth of experience associated with having performed a broad range of related activities. Accumulated experience that has been acquired within the last 5 years is required. Experience will be assessed on the basis of the scope, the quantity, complexity, diversity of the work performed, and degree of autonomy.

Rated Requirements (Knowledge, Ability and Competencies):
Candidates must also meet the Rated Requirements relating to knowledge, abilities and competencies. These may be assessed at a later stage through any of the following: written exam, interview, role-play, practical test, presentation and/or psychometric assessment.

• Knowledge of general office procedures and practices, including correspondence;
• Knowledge of data management;
• Knowledge of social media;
• Knowledge of Internet research;
• Knowledge of UAE and regional politics and the economy.

Asset Qualifications:
• Ability to read, write, and speak French
• Knowledge of Canada and Canadian politics, culture and values

Operational Requirements:
Ability to work irregular hours and/or overtime as required.

Condition(s) of Employment:
A. The appointment of the successful candidates will be subject to Reliability Check (RC). Reliability status must be maintained throughout employment – failure to do so may result in dismissal
B. Short-listed candidates will be asked to provide at least 2 recent references and proof of their residence status. The successful candidate will be asked to provide us with a clean police certificate and credit report to obtain the necessary security clearance.
C. Must be a resident of the UAE at time of hire and eligible to work in UAE;
D. Must hold a valid UAE work permit or no impediments to receive one.


Area of selection:
Open to external applicants residing in the UAE and to employees occupying an indeterminate or term position at the Embassy of Canada in Abu Dhabi or the Consulate General of Canada in Dubai, who meet all of the essential qualifications and whose applications are received by the closing date.
