Summary of position:
The Canadian Trade Commissioner Service is a world-wide network of professionals in international business development (IBD), with preferred access to business knowledge and contacts, who are committed to advancing Canadian interests abroad. These positions contribute to the delivery of the IBD program at Canadian missions abroad, in accordance with the TCS Client Service Policies and Government of Canada policies for international trade, investment, and science and technology, with the objective of helping Canadian clients make better business decisions abroad.

As a member of the Canadian Trade Commissioner Service, conducting work under direction by a Canadian-based Trade Commissioner, the Locally-Based Trade Commissioner (LES-07) will contribute to advancing Canada’s global commerce by, among others, sharing knowledge of the local market interest, providing service to Canadian Clients, building relationships with Canadian Clients and Local Contacts, as well as planning and executing events.

Focusing on lower-level priority trade sector(s) and/or reactive sector(s), the incumbent will:

• Develop knowledge in assigned sectors, together with the political and economic context of local market conditions, to respond effectively to Canadian Client inquiries
• Proactively build relationships with Local Contacts to identify opportunities for new and existing Canadian Clients
• Participate in the organization and execution of high-level visits and/or trade events
• Assist in the preparation of business plans for assigned trade sectors

Essential qualifications:
Mandatory Screening Qualifications:

Education: University degree from a recognized institution.

Language: Professional level (Excellent) of English and Hindi, written and spoken.

Experience: Minimum 4 years (within the past 7 years) of relevant work experience in one or more of the following areas:
• Working with commercial or government clients in international trade and/or investment promotion
• Experience in developing Client and Stakeholder relationships, including preparing for and conducting meetings with key internal and external contacts
• Experience in planning programs with minimal supervision for at least one of the following: high-profile visits, trade shows, roundtable networking events.

Computer Skills: MS-Office (including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), Social Media

Mandatory Rated Qualifications:

Knowledge:
• Knowledge of the local business environment and community, particularly international trade and investment opportunities.
• Knowledge of Global Affairs Canada (GAC) and the Canadian Trade Commissioner Service (TCS).

Ability:
• Research and identify local business opportunities/issues and write effective business communications in English using standard office suites, social media, and information technology tools
• Manage conflicting priorities within tight deadlines to meet work targets
• Establish effective interpersonal relationships with Team Colleagues, Clients, and External Partners

Asset Qualifications:
Candidates are encouraged to indicate how they meet the following criteria, where applicable:

• Existing business network in India
• Master’s degree in a related field
• Working level knowledge of French

Operational Requirements:

Condition(s) of Employment:
The appointment of the successful candidate will be subject to a Reliability Check (RC) obtained by the Management. An offer of employment will not be made until the RC is finalized. To conduct the RC, the candidate will have to submit the following documents:

• Police clearance certificate (Character Certificate)
• Letter of recognition from your bank stating your name, years of client service and your address
• Professional and educational certificates and mark sheets (i.e., academic transcripts)

**Successful candidate must be available to travel and work overtime according to operational needs**

The results of this competition may be used to establish an eligibility list to staff similar openings at the High Commission of Canada, which may arise in the twelve (12) months following the completion of this competition. This eligibility list can be extended by management, due to operational requirements.
