Summary of position:
Reporting to the National Research Council of Canada (NRC) Senior Advisor for Germany, the Program Assistant, is responsible for scheduling, research and administrative services to support the NRC Senior Advisor.

Essential qualifications:
Candidates will initially be screened on the Essential Requirements below and must demonstrate in their cover letter/c.v. how they meet these criteria. Only those candidates who meet all the Essential Requirements and demonstrate this clearly within their application will then proceed to the next stage of the process.

The Essential Requirements are:
- Professional level of German (written and spoken C1*)
- Professional level of English (written and spoken C1*)
- Knowledge of French (written and spoken at least A2*)
*According to the Common European Framework for Languages (CEFR)
- Secretarial or commercial qualification (e.g. vocational training certificate, Bachelor’s degree or higher)
- Significant work experience** in an office environment
- Significant work experience** using online systems and tools (including MS Office applications and client relationship management software), including conducting searches of websites and online databases.
**Significant work experience is defined as 3 years’ work experience at full-time within the last 5 years.

Candidates must also meet the Rated Requirements shown below, which will be assessed through any of the following: cover letter, written test, oral communication, interview and reference checks.


The Rated Requirements are:

- Basic knowledge of innovation and commercial practices in Germany (i.e. research and innovation establishments, government administration)
- Good communication skills (oral and written)
- Ability to draft business correspondence and information (briefing) documents
- Attention to detail
- Ability to prioritize
- Organisational skills
- Ability to interact well with others
- Client service orientation, courteous, discretion

Asset Qualifications:
Preference may be given to candidates who have the following asset qualifications. Candidates must also clearly demonstrate how they meet these factors in their cover letter.

The Asset qualifications are:
- Basic accounting skills (e.g. tracking expenditures)

Organizational Needs:

Operational Requirements:
- Preparedness to work extra hours on occasion including evenings and weekends
- Occasional travel within Germany and Europe on temporary duty, as required
