Summary of position:
Under the direct supervision of the Property Assistant, he/she provides general repair, upkeep, and maintenance services in all areas related to properties and materials, including electrical, plumbing, mechanical, carpentry, appliance repair, etc. Work will be performed at staff quarters, the Official Residence, the Chancery and other facilities owned or leased by the Embassy.

Essential qualifications:
Candidates will initially be screened against the Essential Qualifications relating to education, experience and language. Candidates must clearly demonstrate in their cover letter and CV how they meet each of these essential qualifications.


• Technical High School Diploma.


• Able to communicate in English (spoken and written) – intermediate level;
• Fluency in spoken and written Arabic.


• A minimum of five (5) years of recent* work experience as a technician (electrician, plumber, carpenter, air conditioner service)
• A minimum of five (5) years of recent* work experience as a handyman/maintenance technician in a diplomatic mission
• A Post-Secondary technical certificate as an electrician, plumber, carpenter, or air conditioning technician
*Recent is regarded as within the last 10 years

Rated Requirements

The Rated Requirements relating to knowledge, abilities and competencies will also be assessed. Methods of assessment may include, but are not limited to, a written examination, a case study, an oral interview, role-play, practical tests, presentations and/or psychometric assessment.


• Knowledge of principles of building codes and norms in Egypt;
• Knowledge of repair techniques relating to at least the following: plumbing, electricity, air conditioning;
• Knowledge of basic systems of commercial or residential buildings;
• Knowledge of Health and Safety regulations.


• Ability to work under pressure, plan, organize and prioritize multiple tasks;
• Ability to work courteously and effectively as part of a multi-national team;
• Flexibility;
• Professional demeanor and integrity.

Asset Qualifications:
Preference may be given to candidates who meet the Asset Qualifications. Where applicable, candidates must clearly demonstrate how they meet any asset qualifications in their cover letter and CV.

• Recent experience (within the past five years) as a maintenance technician / handyman in a diplomatic mission, or in an English/French speaking multinational company and hold a post secondary technical certificate.
• Ability to communicate in French.

Operational Requirements:
• Hours of work: 42.5 hours per week.
• Overtime may be required occasionally.

Condition(s) of Employment:
