Summary of position:
The EDC Regional Manager, Europe works under the general supervision of the EDC Chief Representative, Europe and is responsible for leading/co-leading EDC's business development programs in the designated area of responsibility. The EDC Regional Manager is also responsible for helping to build and manage the brand image and reputation of EDC as a local player in the market. The incumbent acts as a key liaison with the Canadian Consulate General and works in a complimentary manner with the Trade Commissioners Service in the mission. The EDC Regional Manager is accountable for business results and designated strategic accounts within his/her assigned geographical responsibility as defined by the EDC Chief Representative.

Essential qualifications:
Candidates will initially be screened on the Essential Requirements below and must demonstrate in their cover letter/c.v. how they meet these criteria. Only those candidates who meet all the Essential Requirements and demonstrate this clearly within their application will then proceed to the next stage of the process.

The Essential Requirements are:
- Master’s degree from a government recognized university, preferably with a degree in commerce, finance or a related area. A combination of education, training and experience is acceptable.
- A superior command of English, including excellent verbal and writing skills.
- Ability to read, understand and communicate in German.
- At least six (6) years of recent and relevant corporate banking experience, either in selling or underwriting;
- Minimum of four (4) years of international business experience, including some relevant experience in a business development role
- In-depth industry knowledge of the economy of Germany and more broadly Europe, and previous experience working within the area
- Experience in dealing with the public and managing relations with a diverse client base, especially the loan syndication community
- Experience in developing client and stakeholder relationships, and in obtaining, preparing for, and conducting meetings with important external parties, such as clients or influencers.

Candidates must also meet the Rated Requirements shown below, which will be assessed through any of the following: cover letter, written test, oral communication, interview and reference checks.

The Rated Requirements are:
- Solid knowledge of the corporate lending market, Export Credit Agency and banking environment.
- Strong knowledge of international capital markets, banking environment and global insurance environment.
- A strong understanding of financial requirements throughout the life cycle of capital projects and related financing techniques.
- Computer skills in MS-office (including Word, Excel, PowerPoint), MS Outlook, Internet.
- Demonstrated ability to identify and deliver on new business opportunities
- The candidate must have well developed soft skills enabling building of contacts with senior business decision makers.
- Solid influencing, negotiating, relationship management and highly effective presentation skills.
- Ability to work effectively with relevant EDC teams and exhibit appropriate leadership and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work autonomously with strong initiative under general guidance of the EDC Chief Representative – Dusseldorf.
- Ability to coordinate conflicting priorities within tight deadlines and meet work targets.
- Ability to write concise reports requiring synthesis and thoughtful analysis of data on international trade, financial and macro-economic issues.

Asset Qualifications:
Preference may be given to candidates who have the following asset qualifications. Candidates must also clearly demonstrate how they meet these factors in their cover letter.

The Asset qualifications are:
- Ability to read, understand and communicate in French.
- Experience with a broad range of EDC products and a good understanding of EDC’s mandate and business principles

Organizational Needs:

Operational Requirements:
- Travel within Germany and to various European countries.
- Travel to Ottawa, Canada for a 6-8 week training period.
- Willingness to work overtime

Condition(s) of Employment:
- Be able to obtain an enhanced reliability status
- Maintain a valid passport
- Valid work permit for Germany at present
