Summary of position:
The Canadian Trade Commissioner Service is a world-wide network of professionals in international business development (IBD), with preferred access to business knowledge and contacts, who are committed to advancing Canadian interests abroad.

Under the direction of the Senior Trade Commissioner, the incumbent will:
• Develop knowledge in assigned sectors, together with the political and economic context of local market conditions, to respond effectively to Canadian client inquiries
• Proactively build relationships with local contacts to identify opportunities for Canadian clients
• Participate in the organization and execution of high-level visits and/or trade events
• Assist in the preparation of business plans for assigned trade sectors

The Officer will be part of the EXPO 2020 Dubai Commercial Program team until the end of April 2021. The individual will assist the commercial program manager in planning, coordinating, tracking and delivering commercial initiatives in close collaboration with the trade team. Key responsibilities include developing and maintaining a solid network of stakeholders, preparing communication and briefing materials for Canadian participants of the EXPO 2020 Dubai Commercial Program, and assisting in the management of projects.

Essential qualifications:
Candidates will initially be screened against the Essential Qualifications relating to education, experience and language. Candidates must clearly demonstrate in their cover letter and CV how they meet each of these essential qualifications.

Education:
• University degree from a recognized institution.

Language:
• Fluency in English (spoken, written, comprehension)

Experience:
• Recent* experience covering one of the following areas: international business development, investment, customer/client networking and relationship management, budget/strategies planning, project management.
• Experience preparing presentations, conducting research, and drafting reports
• Recent experience in organizing commercial or business events.
*Recent experience is defined as within the last five years.


Rated Requirements
The Rated Requirements relating to knowledge, abilities and competencies will also be assessed. Methods of assessment may include, but are not limited to, a written examination, an oral interview, role-play, practical tests, presentations and/or psychometric assessment.

Knowledge:
• Good understanding of international business development practices, including excellence in client service delivery, market research, competitive intelligence gathering, and general project management principles.
• Of the UAE business environment particularly international trade and investment opportunities.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office and social media.

Asset Qualifications:
Preference may be given to candidates who meet the Asset Qualifications. Where applicable, candidates must clearly demonstrate how they meet any asset qualifications in their cover letter and CV.
• Fluency in French (oral and written).
• Fluency in Arabic (oral and written).
• Previous experience in working with a public or government organization.
• Good knowledge of the Government of Canada’s policies and programs, including trade, investment and innovation policies, programs and institutions.
• Established networks/relationships in the United Arab Emirates.

Operational Requirements:
• Ability to travel to meet clients and stakeholders, including for events and training courses, around Dubai and Northern Emirates, and worldwide, as required.
• There may be a requirement to work additional hours including statutory holidays, weekends, and after normal working hours. Normal working week is 37.5 hours.

Condition(s) of Employment:
• Obtain necessary Government of Canada Reliability Status clearance.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a UAE residence visa.
