Summary of position:
Under the general supervision of G.S. and Property Officer, Maintenance Technician performs repairs and maintenance of assets and equipment including minor electrical, heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC), plumbing and refrigeration repairs and perform other duties as required in the Chancery and Staff Quarters. Supervision of a team of maintenance technicians and/or supervision and inspection of work performed by contractors to ensure compliance with manufacturer’s specifications when required.

Essential qualifications:
Essential Qualifications:
Candidates will initially be screened against the Essential Qualifications relating to education, experience and language. Candidates must clearly demonstrate in their cover letter and CV how they meet each of these essential qualifications.

• Completed secondary school and/or recognized technical and professional certification

• Fluency in Russian (written and spoken)
• Pre-Intermediate level of English (written and spoken) in order to understand instructions and communicate information, if needed

• A minimum of 2 years recent professional experience* as a maintenance technician including troubleshooting home and office maintenance issues
• Recent experience* in at least one of the following fields: A/C repair, plumbing, electrical repairs

*Recent is defined as at least 2 years of accumulated experience that was acquired within the last 5 years.

Rated Requirements:
The Rated Requirements relating to knowledge, abilities and competencies will also be assessed. Methods of assessment may include, but are not limited to, a written examination, an oral interview, role-play, practical tests, presentations and/or psychometric assessment.

• Knowledge of health and safety regulations/procedures
• Knowledge of basic maintenance management concepts and procedures (maintaining supplies and inventories, maintaining service records)
• Knowledge of basic maintenance repair concepts and procedures in one or more of the following areas: electrical, carpentry, plumbing, air conditioning and residential appliances

• Effective interactive communication (written and spoken)
• Ability to complete and relay facts related to incidents (flooding, damages, etc.)
• Ability to co-ordinate conflicting priorities, perform to tight deadlines and prioritize work
• Ability to use computers
• Ability to diagnose and solve basic technical problems
• Ability to supervise contract trades and other resource personnel

Asset Qualifications:
Preference may be given to candidates who meet the Asset Qualifications. Where applicable, candidates must clearly demonstrate how they meet any asset qualifications in their cover letter and CV.
• Experience working in a general maintenance position at diplomatic mission, government agency or multinational company
• Experience with supervision of maintenance team or contractors
• Relevant training in carpentry and masonry, audio-visual and painting
• Knowledge of auto/vehicle mechanism

Organizational Needs:

Operational Requirements:
• Ability to work overtime and sometimes on short notice
• Must be able to respond in case of emergency to telephone calls which may take place after working hours and during weekends
• Ability to do physical tasks such as lift heavy boxes and clean cars

Condition(s) of Employment:
• The successful candidate must complete and retain a Government of Canada Enhanced Reliability Security Clearance
• The successful candidate must be legally entitled to work in the Republic of Kazakhstan
