Summary of position:
Under the direction of the Management Consular Officer (MCO), the driver is responsible for providing transportation of people and goods, delivery, and errands for all Mission programs, while ensuring the highest level of safety and security when driving and by following all required local and safe driving regulations and practices; good maintenance of vehicles; provides basic administrative, maintenance and support services to the Mission in accordance with Mission and Department policies.

Essential qualifications:
Essential Qualifications

Candidates will initially be screened against the Essential Qualifications relating to education, experience and language. It is not sufficient to simply state responsibilities. Candidates must clearly demonstrate in their cover letter and CV how they meet each of these essential qualifications:

Education:

• Certificat d’études primaires (CEP) with a class level of 3e; or an equivalent combination of studies and work experience.

Language:

• Fluency in French (reading, writing, speaking).

Experience:

• Minimum of five (5) years of recent work experience* as a driver (persons), including at least two (2) years for a public administration, an embassy, or a non-governmental international organization.

* Recent work experience is defined as being over the past ten years


Rated Requirements

The Rated Requirements relating to knowledge, abilities and competencies will also be assessed. Methods of assessment may include, but are not limited to: written examinations, an oral interview, role-playing, practical tests, presentations and / or psychometric assessments.

Knowledge:

• Knowledge of the city of Ouagadougou;
• Knowledge of the main cities of Burkina Faso;

Abilities / Competencies:

• Ability to communicate verbally and in writing in French;
• Ability to complete basic arithmetic calculations;
• Ability to work efficiently under pressure;
• Professional integrity;
• Punctuality;
• Initiative and judgement;
• Client focus;
• Adaptability and flexibility.

Asset Qualifications:
Preference may be given to candidates who meet the Asset Qualifications. Where applicable, candidates must clearly demonstrate how they meet any asset qualifications in their cover letter and CV.

• Attested training in the field of vehicle maintenance or automotive mechanics;
• Attested training in safe and defensive driving;
• Attested training in the field of conducting armoured vehicles;
• At least one (1) year of experience in conducting armoured vehicles;
• Ability to communicate verbally and / or in writing in English efficiently.

Organizational Needs:

Operational Requirements:
• Be able and willing to occasionally work overtime;
• Be able and willing to occasionally work at night;
• Regular hours of work: 8 to 17;
• Be able and willing to work outside Ouagadougou for extended periods of time;

Condition(s) of Employment:
• Candidates must have a valid work authorization covering the entire employment period. If the employment is indeterminate, the work authorization should be permanent or itself lead to a permanent work authorization;
• Have a valid Burkina Faso driver’s license of at least category B;
• Before an offer of employment can be made, candidates must provide a local address as proof of residence in Burkina Faso so that if selected, it will appear on the offer letter;
• A reliability rating (security clearance) is required to obtain this position at the Embassy of Canada and will be subject to audits. This rating must be maintained throughout the employment – loss of the latter is sufficient reason to dismiss the employee;
• The appointment of the selected candidate will be conditional to a medical examination by the Embassy of Canada, as well as a probation period.

Area of selection:
This position is open to candidates who are authorized to work legally in Burkina Faso. At the time of application, non-Burkinese applicants must indicate that they have legal right to reside and work in Burkina Faso. Candidates must meet all the essential qualifications and the application must be received by the closing date of the competition.
