Salary:
The starting yearly salary for this full-time position is 73,256 EUR gross. In addition, the employee receives a 13th month salary, will be entitled to 30 days of vacation per year, and will benefit of an employer’s contribution to the pension plan.

Summary of position:
The Investment Officer is a local employee of the Government of Canada who works autonomously in the International Business Development (IBD) team, under the general direction of the Senior Trade Commissioner, and in accordance with the international priorities of the Government of Canada and its specific objectives in Germany. The position of Investment Officer at the Canadian Consulate in Düsseldorf is part of the Investment Team at the Embassy in Berlin, which acts as the focal point responsible for liaising with foreign companies based in the territory to facilitate Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in Canada.

Essential qualifications:
Candidates will initially be screened on the essential qualifications below and must demonstrate in their cover letter/c.v. how they meet these criteria. Only those candidates who meet all the Essential Requirements and demonstrate this clearly within their application will then proceed to the next stage of the process.

The essential qualifications are:
- Master’s or equivalent degree from a recognized university in a field related to the position, including but not limited to: commerce, finance, statistical analysis and economics.
- A minimum of 5 years of recent and direct experience in business development or foreign direct investment attraction;
- Experience in conducting statistical analysis using business data;
- Experience in managing client and stakeholder relationships and in providing client service support to customers/clients;
- Use of technology and analytical tools and data bases.
- Fluency in English (written and spoken)
- Fluency in German (written and spoken)

Candidates must also meet the Rated Requirements shown below, which will be assessed through any of the following: cover letter, written test, oral communication, interview and reference checks.

The rated requirements are:
- Knowledge of the role of governments in attracting Foreign Direct Investment (FDI);
- Knowledge of research methods for analysing commercial information.
- Knowledge of the factors that influence investment, expansion and relocation decisions, and of Canada’s value proposition for investors; and
- Knowledge of trends and recent developments in the Canadian and German economy.
- Communicate effectively in English and in German, both orally and in writing;
- Analyze information and provide strategic advice;
- Plan, organize and carry out promotional events;
- Manage multiple priorities with tight deadlines;
- Effective interpersonal skills;
- Sound judgement;
- Initiative;
- Teamwork;
- Client-focus orientation.

Asset Qualifications:
Preference may be given to candidates who have the following asset qualifications. Candidates must also clearly demonstrate how they meet these factors in their cover letter.

The Asset qualifications are:
- Ability to communicate effectively in French both orally and in writing
- Experience in using social media tools for promotion and/or to generate new business opportunities.

Operational Requirements:
- Must be able to work overtime on short notice on occasion;
- Must be willing to travel; and
- Must be available for occasional duties outside normal working hours (i.e., evenings and weekends).

Condition(s) of Employment:
- Eligibility for a Government of Canada Reliability Status;
- Must have a valid German work authorization covering the employment period;
