Summary of position:
Under the direct supervision and guidance of the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) Liaison Officers (LO) and / or the International Network Manager (INM), the Operation Liaison Assistant (OLA) will perform a wide range of administrative, clerical and strategic activities to assist the CBSA LO program. The OLA will assist CBSA efforts in supporting Canada’s national security and public safety priorities. This includes, but is not limited to, the facilitation and free flow of persons and goods to and from the countries within LO’s area of responsibility (AOR) and the identification of persons and goods that may pose a risk for non-compliance; participating in the reporting on cross-border criminal activities, migratory and customs trends; liaising with both private and governmental stakeholder such as Immigration and Customs organisations, as well as commercial air carriers, on a wide range of CBSA mandate issues; assisting the LO in expanding border management cooperation with the relevant stakeholders in the AOR; professionally represent the CBSA, be it in writing or in person; networking with representatives of host countries and other organisations; and, providing assistance in both operational and administrative capacities as required by the LO or INM.

Essential qualifications:
Essential Qualifications
Candidates will initially be screened against the Essential Qualifications relating to education, experience and language. Candidates must clearly demonstrate in their cover letter and CV how they meet each of these essential qualifications.

• Post-secondary diploma / Bachelor’s degree

• Proficiency in German – (reading, writing, comprehension and speaking)
• Proficiency in English – (reading, writing, comprehension and speaking)

Minimum 2 years of recent* experience in one or more of the following
• Working within an office environment in an administrative support or program assistant capacity.
• Working in a field related to border security or law enforcement, including but not limited to fraudulent document detection and passenger assessment, the administration of customs legislation or the administration of immigration legislation.
• Working for the Canada Border Services Agency or Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada, either in Canada or at a Canadian Embassy or Consulate abroad.
*Recent experience is defined as within the last 5 years.

Rated Requirements
The Rated Requirements relating to knowledge, abilities and competencies will also be assessed. Methods of assessment may include, but are not limited to, a written examination, an oral interview, role-play, practical tests, references, presentations and/or psychometric assessment.

• Occasional overtime, as operationally required
• Hours of work: 37.5 hours per week (Monday to Friday)
• Please note the Embassy operates a schedule of public holidays according to a combination of German and Canadian dates, which means you will be required to work on certain German holidays.

Condition(s) of Employment:
• Valid passport
• The successful candidate will be required to obtain and maintain a Government of Canada Reliability Status (RS), which includes criminal and credit background check, covering the entire employment period.
• Candidates must have a valid work authorization covering the entire employment period. If the employment is indeterminate, the work authorization should be permanent or itself lead to a permanent work authorization.
• Before an offer of employment can be made, candidates must provide a local address as proof of residence in the specific city, region or country so that if selected, it will appear on the offer letter.

Area of selection:
This position is open to candidates currently residing in Germany, who hold current documentation allowing them to work in Germany without restriction, who meet all of the essential requirements stated and whose applications are received by the closing date. Those candidates holding documentation/visas not renewable in Germany such as the Youth Mobility Visa will not be eligible to apply for this position.
