Summary of position:
As an International Business Development Officer, you will be responsible for promoting trade and investment, and facilitating S&T and innovation partnerships across a variety of sectors. Key responsibilities include:
• Development of current knowledge of the commercial, economic and political context of the Norwegian market
• Respond to requests for information and intelligence from clients, and/or provide strategic advice to clients on navigating the Norwegian market
• Identify and develop business opportunities for Canadian clients
• Relationship and network building with Canadian clients and key Norwegian contacts
• Analyze business or market access issues encountered by clients, and advise of creative strategies for resolving them
• Contribute to the development of annual business plans, goals and objectives, and policies for the international business development program at the Embassy
• Event planning and management

Essential qualifications:
Candidates will initially be screened against the Essential Qualifications relating to education, experience and language. Candidates must clearly demonstrate in their cover letter and CV how they meet each of these essential qualifications.

Education:
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from a recognized college or university in a discipline related to the job requirements (e.g. commerce, marketing, business administration, international trade or a related discipline including engineering and science)

Language:
• Fluency in English, both written and spoken.
• An excellent knowledge of Norwegian.

Experience:
• Experience developing and managing networks with clients, partners and/or stakeholders.
• Minimum of 3 years recent* relevant work experience, in the private sector or in government relevant to the position.
• Experience providing high quality services to internal and/or external clients

*Recent Experience is referred to as within the last 7 years.

Asset Qualifications:
Preference may be given to candidates who have the following asset qualifications:
• Experience in a Norwegian organization in the following sectors: oil & gas, cleantech, ICT, Aquaculture, Defence, Life Sciences and/or other sectors
• Master’s level degree from a recognized college or university
• Knowledge of French, written and/or spoken
• Knowledge of Canada and the Canadian politico-economic environment, as well as Canadian business practices
• Experience managing the organization of events, such as seminars and/or participation in trade shows
• Experience in international sales and/or marketing
• Experience managing projects

Organizational Needs:

Operational Requirements:
• Willingness and ability to travel within Norway and abroad.
• Willingness and ability to occasionally work outside regular working hours and/or weekends when required.
Hours of Work: 37.5 hours per week, 5 days a week

Condition(s) of Employment:
• Able to obtain and retain a Government of Canada Reliability Status Clearance (ERC). Please note that ERC must be maintained throughout your employment at the Embassy, as failure to do so may result in dismissal.
• Must have a valid authorization to work and reside in Norway.
