Summary of position:
Under the supervision of the Property and Materiel Manager, maintain the accommodation of Canadian personnel, the Chancery and the Official Residence; assist in maintaining the warehouse inventory and perform other functions.

Essential qualifications:
Candidates will be selected initially on the basis of essential qualifications related to education, language profile and experience. They must clearly demonstrate in their cover letter and resume how they meet each of the essential qualifications.

Education:
• Recognised* Technician Diploma.

* Diploma issued by an accredited professional institution.

Language:
• Fluency in French (written and oral).


Experience:
• Minimum of four (4) years of recent* relevant professional experience in a diplomatic mission or a private sector company in the field of carpentry and electricity.

*Recent is defined as experience acquired in the eight (8) years that immediately precede the closing date mentioned in the present job poster.

Rated requirements
The rated requirements relating to knowledge, abilities and professional qualities will also be assessed. Methods of assessment may include, but are not limited to, a written examination, an oral interview, role-play, practical tests, presentations and / or psychometric assessments.

Knowledge:
• Knowledge of electrical installations (220 volts);
• Knowledge of parts and materials used for air conditioning, heating, plumbing, electricity, carpentry, masonry, and building painting;
• Computer knowledge (Word and Outlook).


Abilities/Competencies:
• Interactive communication orally and in writing;
• Able to interpret data sheets, electrical diagrams and nameplates;
• Customer service orientation;
• Organisational skills and attention to details;

Asset Qualifications:
Preference may be given to candidates who meet the Asset Qualifications. Where applicable, candidates must clearly demonstrate how they meet any asset qualifications in their cover letter and CV.
• Fluency in English;
• Work experience in the fields of plumbing and painting;
• Certificate of qualification / training certificate in all areas related to the position.

Operational Requirements:
• Ability to work overtime occasionally and sometimes on short notice, which may include weekends;
• Able to lift and move heavy objects weighing up to 25 kilograms while following appropriate safety guidelines;
• Must wear and use protective clothing/equipment.

Condition(s) of Employment:
• Applicants must be in possession of a valid driver's license;
• Applicants must meet the requirements of the medical examination which will be a condition prior to appointment;
• Applicants must have a valid work permit covering the entire period of employment or having the right to work in Switzerland. If the position is of an indeterminate nature, the work permit should be permanent or lead on its own to a permanent work permit;
• Applicants must provide any document proving their right of residence and work in Switzerland or in the border area*;
• Before a job offer can be made, applicants must provide an address in Switzerland proving their residence in that country or in the border area *. This address in Switzerland or in the border area will be indicated on the letter of offer of the selected candidate;
• A security clearance is required for this position at the Permanent Mission of Canada and will be verified. This rating must be maintained throughout the period of employment; the loss of this rating is sufficient reason to dismiss the employee.

*The border area is defined within a radius of 50 kilometers around Geneva

Area of selection:
This position is open to candidates who are authorized to work legally in Switzerland. Applicants holding a non-renewable visa in Switzerland are not eligible to apply for this position.
