Summary of position:
This position is part of the International Business Development team at the Canadian Consulate in Düsseldorf, Germany. Under the direction of the Senior Trade Commissioner, advises on and assists with the Mission’s trade program as it fits into the overall Germany strategy. Current priority sector assignment is the Agri-Food file.

Essential qualifications:
Candidates will initially be screened against the Essential Qualifications relating to education, experience and language. Candidates must clearly demonstrate in their cover letter and CV how they meet each of these essential qualifications.

Education:

• Higher education degree (minimum Bachelors) from an accredited college or university

Language:

• Professional level of German (oral and written)
• Professional level of English (oral and written)

Experience:

• Minimum of three years of recent direct work experience** in promoting international business development in one important trade sector (e.g. Agriculture and Agri-food) either in the public or the private sector
• Recent experience** in organizing commercial or business events
** recent experience is defined as within the last 5 years

Rated Requirements
The Rated Requirements relating to knowledge, abilities and competencies will also be assessed. Methods of assessment may include, but are not limited to, a written examination, an oral interview, role-play, practical tests, presentations and/or psychometric assessment.

Knowledge:
• Professional knowledge of client management software
• Extensive knowledge of the German economy notably in at least one important trade sector (e.g. Agriculture and Agri-food)
• Knowledge of trade-related policy as it relates to trade promotion, including free trade agreements
• Knowledge of Canadian economy

Abilities and Skills:
• Ability to take initiative and as a self-starter (initiative)
• Ability to integrate as part of a team (i.e. to share responsibilities and accountabilities)
• Ability to prioritise
• Ability to adapt and be flexible in problem solving

Ability to travel and work overtime according to operational needs

Condition(s) of Employment:
• Ability to obtain an Enhanced Reliability Clearance
