Summary of position:
Under the general supervision of the Head of Mission (HOM) at the High Commission of Canada, the Mission Hospitality Coordinator is responsible for the general maintenance and upkeep of the Official Residence.

The Coordinator is responsible for ensuring the cleaning and maintenance of the Official Residence (OR) including maintaining an accurate inventory of assets and supplies.

The position helps to prepare the Official Residence for official and private hospitality events, in collaboration with the Head of Mission, the Executive Assistant, Head of Mission Chef, High Commission staff, suppliers and vendors. The Coordinator is sometimes required to assist with hospitality and event duties, including supporting meal preparation or acting as a server for functions.

The Coordinator’s main priority is to ensure that all public areas, lavatories, hallways, stairs, entrances, kitchens and working areas are maintained in a clean and orderly condition including washing and cleaning floors, table tops and windows, as well as vacuuming/dusting and removing waste. The position is also responsible for the maintenance and cleaning of the Head of Mission and family’s private space and will be responsible for laundry, ironing, changing bed linens, general tidying and running errands.

Essential qualifications:
Candidates will initially be screened on the essential qualifications below and must demonstrate in their cover letter how they meet these criteria. Only those candidates who demonstrate clearly in their application that they meet all the Essential Requirements will proceed to the next stage of the process:

Education: GCSE’s or equivalent (i.e. minimum High School Diploma)

Experience: At least 2 years experience in a housekeeping position within a private residence or hotel environment

Linguistic Profile: Working level of written and spoken English

Rated Requirements
Candidates must also meet the Rated Requirements shown below, which will be assessed through any of the following: cover letter, written test, oral communication, interview and reference checks. Digital/collaboration tools may be used in lieu of face to face communication:
• Experience in maintaining the general upkeep of a private residence
• Knowledge of how to set up a dining table, polishing silver and other table settings
• Knowledge of how to clean and steam various fabrics
• Knowledge of how to clean and tidy kitchens/bathrooms and other household areas
• Attention to detail;
• Ability to adapt and learn quickly new work and processes;
• Judgement / professional integrity (values & ethics);
• Teamwork and cooperation;

Asset Qualifications:
Preference may be given to candidates who have the following asset qualifications. Candidates must also clearly demonstrate how they meet these factors in their cover letter:
• Experience working in a diplomatic mission
• Experience with serving / front of house duties (greeting guests, mixing and pouring beverages, serving food orders from the kitchen)
• Experience with minor clothing repairs/sewing

• Ability to work flexible hours on occasions

Condition(s) of Employment:
Hours of work will be 37.5 per week, worked Monday to Friday at time to be arranged by the supervisor. Any job offer is subject to receipt of satisfactory employment and character references and the ability to obtain and maintain a Reliability Security screening (including a criminal record & credit check).
Copies of educational qualifications will be required at the interview stage of the process. The successful candidate must have the required documentation allowing the right to work in the UK. Documentation will be required.

This position is open to candidates currently resident in the UK, who hold current documentation allowing them to work in the UK without restriction, who meet all of the essential requirements stated and whose applications are received by the closing date.
