Summary of position:
The Commercial Officer – Ontario presents an opportunity for an ambitious individual to advance the work of the Ontario International Trade and Investment Office (TIO) UK in a mid-level role:

1) Lead, in partnership with and under guidance from the Counsellor (Commercial – Ontario), Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) Attraction and Aftercare initiatives;

2) Work with the Counsellor (Commercial – Ontario) and the Senior Commercial Officer to undertake commercial research, research and insight dissemination, commercial promotion, and commercial partnership development;

3) Support the work of the Senior Commercial Officer, with guidance from the Counsellor (Commercial – Ontario), in the areas of Export/Trade Promotion

Essential qualifications:
Candidates will initially be screened on the essential qualifications below and must demonstrate in their cover letter how they meet these criteria. Education: A University degree from an accredited recognized university

• Minimum of 2 years’ recent *and relevant work experience in Economic Development, FDI Attraction and/or Trade Promotion. *Recent is defined as within last 5 years
• Experience managing client and stakeholder relationships and providing client service support to customers/clients;

Linguistic Profile: Professional written and oral communication in English

Rated Requirements:
Candidates must also meet the Rated Requirements shown below, which will be assessed through any of the following: cover letter, written test, oral communication, interview and reference checks.
• Ability to collect, synthesize and distribute data, information or intelligence
• Use of online tools, databases and software for commercial promotion and to generate new business opportunities (i.e. social media, databases, online search tools and software).
• Ability to prioritize multiple demands, exercise initiative and judgement and be organized
• Ability to work with clients and stakeholders at varying levels
• Knowledge of the role of governments in attracting Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) and Trade Promotion

Asset Qualifications:
The High Commission has the right to further screen on Asset Qualifications and as such, preference may be given to candidates who have the following asset qualifications. Candidates should also clearly demonstrate in their cover letter if they meet these qualifications.

• Experience researching and preparing quantitative and qualitative reports and notes
• Experience working in an Embassy or High Commission environment in the UK
• Understanding of key sectors of the Ontario Economy and the UK economy
• Current Canadian Government Security Clearance
• At least 2 years experience managing client and stakeholder relationships and providing client service support to customers/clients

Organizational Needs:

Operational Requirements:
Overtime and weekend work may be required on occasion.

Condition(s) of Employment:
Hours of work will be 37.5 per week, worked Monday to Friday at time to be arranged by the supervisor. Any job offer is subject to receipt of satisfactory employment and character references and the ability to obtain and maintain a Reliability Status security screening (including a criminal record check).
Copies of educational qualifications will be required at the interview stage of the process. Successful candidate must have a valid passport and the required documentation allowing the right to work in the UK. Documentation will be required.

This position is open to candidates currently resident in the UK, who hold current documentation allowing them to work in the UK without restriction, who meet all of the essential requirements stated and whose applications are received by the closing date. Those candidates holding documentation/visas not renewable in the UK such as the Youth Mobility Visa will not be eligible to apply for this position.
