Senior Driver

¥ 4,839,220 to ¥ 6,952,223 per annum. The starting salary will be the lowest amount of the salary range.

Summary of position:
The Senior Driver provides transportation to the Ambassador and authorized persons; performs route planning and verification; provides confidential and secure driving services; ensures the proper maintenance of the fleet vehicles; processes routine invoices and cost recovery reports; provides basic administrative support services; and performs other related duties.

Essential qualifications:
Candidates will initially be screened against the Essential Qualifications relating to education, experience and language. Candidates must clearly demonstrate in their cover letter and CV how they meet each of these essential qualifications.

Education:
• High school diploma.
Language:
• Writing and oral working proficiency skills in English.
• Writing working proficiency skills in Japanese. For Japanese oral skills, sonkeigo level is required.
(Language tests may be administered).
Experience:
• Recent experience (at least three years obtained in the last five years) in providing professional driving services. Applicants should include examples in their submission on how they meet this requirement.
• Client service in a time-sensitive environment.
• Experience in providing general office support and running errands.
• Experience in interacting with either VIPs, dignitaries, or high-level delegations.

Rated Requirements:
The Rated Requirements relating to knowledge, abilities and competencies will also be assessed. Methods of assessment may include, but are not limited to, a written examination, an oral interview, role-play, practical tests, presentations and/or psychometric assessment.

Knowledge:
• Basic knowledge of car mechanics.
• Excellent knowledge of Tokyo streets and surrounding areas.
• Expert knowledge and understanding of traffic rules and regulations.

Abilities/skills:
• Ability to communicate in writing and orally.
• Ability to use a computer and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Ability to navigation/GPS systems, read maps, judge distances and driving times, and plan routes.
• Skill to change a flat tire using a vehicle’s emergency toolkit.
• Must be able to lift and move items weighting up to 20kg.
• Resourcefulness in difficult situations.
• Ability to work under pressure and to handle multiple tasks.
• Ability to analyse and interpret information efficiently according to established criteria.

Asset Qualifications:
Preference may be given to candidates who meet the Asset Qualifications. Where applicable, candidates must clearly demonstrate how they meet any asset qualifications in their cover letter and CV.
• Writing and oral skills in French.
• Experience working in an international organization such as an Embassy, multilateral organization or multinational corporation.


Organizational Needs:

Operational Requirements:
• Must be available for occasional duties outside normal working hours (i.e., evenings and weekends)
• 40 hours/week
• 08:30 to 17:30 (Monday – Friday)

Condition(s) of Employment:
The successful candidate must:
• The appointment of the successful candidate will be subject to the ability to obtain and maintain a Reliability Security Status, which includes reference checks, criminal record check and a credit check.

• Have valid work authorization covering the employment period. The Embassy of Canada to Japan does not sponsor employment.

• Have held a valid Japanese driver’s license for the past ten years. At the time of application, the license must be at the medium vehicle class, carrying gold status, with no restrictions on transmission type.

• Provide a Five Year Driving Record Certificate. (運転記録証明書(5年)).

• Good health and vision based on a medical check and report. The medical check will be organized and paid by the embassy.

Area of selection:
This position is open to all qualified candidates, including Embassy employees and spouses/dependants of Canada-based staff, who meet all of the essential qualifications and whose applications are received by the closing date. Candidates must be available to participate in tests and/or interviews at the Embassy of Canada to Japan during the competitive process. Candidates must be eligible to work in Japan and must possess all required work permits and visas.

• Employee is eligible for commuting assistance (up to Yen 18,300 per month).
