Summary of position:
Under the general direction of the Senior Trade Commissioner, the Officer contributes to the successful delivery of the International Business Development (IBD) program. The Officer will support Canadian companies in the automotive and aerospace sectors that are seeking to grow their business and strategically work with a rich local network of potential customers, investors and partners in the southeastern United States.

Responsibilities include:
•Developing, planning and implementing a business development program for Canadian automotive and aerospace sector clients which includes finding opportunities for clients, advising clients, stakeholder engagement, managing budgets, tracking and reporting of results, planning and delivering events, supporting official visits, and identifying and implementing opportunities for continuous improvement;
•Building a network of diverse local contacts supporting program objectives;
•Building a network in Canada and pipeline of clients;
•Providing outstanding services to Canadian clients;
•Conducting in-depth research from a wide range of sources to analyze trends in the market matching the opportunities to capabilities in Canada;
•Developing short and long term strategies for to advance success of Canadian companies in the southeastern United States (Georgia, North & South Carolina, Tennessee, Alabama and Mississippi).

Essential qualifications:
Candidates will initially be screened against the Essential Qualifications relating to education, experience and language. Candidates must clearly demonstrate in their cover letter and CV how they meet each of these essential qualifications.

•Degree from an accredited college or university OR an acceptable combination of education, training and work experience related to the duties and specific areas of competence required by the position, including but not limited to business, economics, or tech

•Fluency in English (oral and written)

•At least five (5) years of professional experience working in business development or program management in the private and/or public sector, including direct experience in the automotive or aerospace sector.
•Experience conducting research and analysis and providing strategic advice, briefings, and written reports to senior management and/or clients on business issues.
•Experience in project management (including strategic planning, tracking/reporting results and budget management.

Rated Requirements

The Rated Requirements relating to knowledge, abilities and competencies will also be assessed. Methods of assessment may include, but are not limited to, a written examination, an oral interview, role-play, practical tests, presentations and/or psychometric assessment.

•Knowledge of the factors that influence the automotive and aerospace industries in the US generally and in the southeastern United States in particular and how they may have an impact on Canadian business interests, especially in priority sectors covered by the position
•Understanding of the role of the business development section of the Consulate General of Canada in Atlanta (the Canadian Trade Commissioner Service) in advancing Canadian commercial interests
• Knowledge of the Canadian automotive and aerospace sectors
• Knowledge of the automotive and aerospace market in the southeastern USA

•Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
•Ability to develop and maintain a network of Canadian clients and local contacts
•Ability to identify local market needs and relevant business opportunities
•Ability to analyze and provide strategic advice

Asset Qualifications:
Preference may be given to candidates who meet the Asset Qualifications. Where applicable, candidates must clearly demonstrate how they meet any asset qualifications in their cover letter and CV.
•Experience related to delivering programming for or services to start-ups or small and medium sized businesses
•Ability to work in French

Organizational Needs:

Operational Requirements:
•Normal hours of work for this position are in accordance with Locally Engaged Staff regulations of 37.5 hours per week.
•The successful candidate must be willing to work evenings and overtime as required.
•The successful candidate must be willing to travel throughout the Consulate General of Canada in Atlanta’s territory and to Canada.

Condition(s) of Employment:
•The successful candidate must obtain a Government of Canada enhanced Reliability Status.
•Having and retaining the right to work in the United States for the duration of the employment (valid work permit or Green Card for foreigners)
•Ability to travel in the US and abroad; ability to obtain and maintain a valid passport (occasional travel to Canada)
