Summary of position:
Under the supervision of the Property Officer, the incumbent delivers general services including repairs and maintenance in all fields related to property and materials, including, but not limited to, electricity, plumbing, mechanics, heating, air conditioning, carpentry, appliances repair, etc. The work is done in any property owned or rented by the Embassy of Canada in Tunisia: diplomatic personnel quarters, official residence, chancery and warehouse. The incumbent must report and maintain a registry of interventions. He/she must also collaborate with, supervise and work with beneficiaries and specialized experts.

Essential qualifications:
Candidates will initially be screened against the Essential Qualifications relating to education, experience and language. Candidates must clearly demonstrate in their cover letter and CV how they meet each of these essential qualifications.

• High school diploma or technical diploma, or an equivalent combination of relevant studies, training and professional experience.

• Good* knowledge of French (oral);
• Proficiency in Tunisian Arab (oral);
• Good* knowledge of French (written);
• Good* knowledge of Arab (written).

*Good is defined as being able to meet daily social requirements, being able to confidently manage basic social interaction including presentations and basic conversations concerning daily events, work and family, and managing limited work responsibilities, though help is necessary to manage complexities and difficulties.

• Two (2) years of recent* experience as a technician (electrician, plumber, carpenter or AC technician);
• Two (2) years of recent* experience as a handyman or building maintenance technician in a diplomatic mission;
• A post-secondary technical certificate as an electrician, plumber, carpenter or AC technician;

*Recent is defined as within the last five (5) years.

Rated Requirements:

The Rated Requirements relating to knowledge, abilities and competencies will also be assessed. Methods of assessment may include, but are not limited to, a written examination, an oral interview, role-play, practical tests, presentations and/or psychometric assessment.

• Knowledge of principles, codes and norms related to construction in Tunisia;
• Knowledge of maintenance techniques and of repairs regarding at least one of the following fields: plumbing, electricity, air conditioning, refrigeration, mechanics;
• Knowledge of the basic systems of commercial or residential buildings;
• Basic knowledge of health and safety.

Asset Qualifications:
Preference may be given to candidates who meet the Asset Qualifications. Where applicable, candidates must clearly demonstrate how they meet any asset qualifications in their cover letter and CV.

• Good* knowledge of English (oral);
• Work experience at the Embassy of Canada in Tunisia;
• Work experience within a diplomatic mission or in an international organization.

Organizational Needs:

Operational Requirements:
• Must be available for occasional duties outside normal working hours (i.e., evenings and weekends), especially in summer during the period of diplomatic personnel rotation;
• Must have a valid driver’s license (Category B);
• Must be able to lift, carry and move heavy materials;
• Normal work schedule: 37.5 hours/week (Monday to Friday)(subject to revision).

Condition(s) of Employment:
• The successful candidate must be eligible to work and live in Tunisia;
• Candidates must have a valid work authorization covering the entire employment period. If the employment is indeterminate, the work authorization should be permanent or itself lead to a permanent work authorization;
• Before an offer of employment can be made, candidates must provide a local address as proof of residence in the specific city, region or country so that if selected, it will appear on the offer letter;
• Obtain and maintain a reliability rating (security clearance) from the Government of Canada covering the entire employment period.
